john hope: Relay transmitters and sub-relays do not, as a rule, carry all freeview channels, only high power main transmitting stations carry the full roster of freeview channels generally.

john hope: There aren't likely to be any more services available on terrestrial television (Freeview) from the Newton transmitter. This is down to the Commerial broadcasters having free reign on where they transmit from, a decision driven by their objective to generate a return by showing adverts to as many as possible for least possible cost.

In general, a satellite service is likely to be the only was Hexham residents will increase the number of services.
In spots where reception from Pontop Pike is possible, be aware that its Commercial channels from Pontop Pike (those that aren't carried by the Newton relay) are co-channel (same frequencies) with the Haltwhistle relay transmitter. So some viewers could potentially end up no better off, or at least suffer interference at times.
DAB will be available in Hexham within two years. Last month the BBC announced that it will be installing 162 new DAB transmitters for its national network, including one in Hexham:

John: No, not ever. You might like to consider Freesat, if you don't stand a chance of receiving all channels from Pontop Pike.

John: With regard to DAB radio, the Newton mast should have the BBC national DAB multiplex added in the near future. The local DAB plan does show Newton as one of a number of sites required to bring coverage of the Tyne & Wear 11C multiplex up to the current level of FM services from BBC Newcastle, Metro FM and other independant local/regional radio stations. The timescale for expanding the 11C coverage is unclear, there being no real hurry until such time that a DSO for radio is announced.

Mr Blenkinsop: There are no faults showing for either the Pontop Pike or Newton transmitters, so the most likely explanation is that your aerial system has been damaged by the recent bad weather. Although, it would be worth checking for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV just in case.

The only signal in range of our home is from the Newton transmitter, this normally only gives us freeview light.
In the last few days the TV guide on our TV is currently showing the full listing for freeview channels, however none of the additional channels are working.
Does anyone know whats going on?

Gary: The current atmospheric conditions are probably allowing your to pick up a weak signal (enough to get the channel data but not enough to get a picture) from a main transmitter which would not normally be receivable.
