I receive my freeview from Ripponden transmitter. Please can you advise when will the transmitter be upgraded to enable me to receive the same programmes as thsoe who receive promgrammes from Emiley Moor? My aerial contractor advised that I would require a 40 foot aerial to receive from Emley Moor now.

John Swallow: Never; the Commercial broadcasters don't wish to pay for it as it's not worth their while.

John Myddelton: No one on this website is working on the transmitter, this is an independent help website which is not connected with an broadcaster or transmitter company. The BBC are currently reporting that the Ripponden transmitter is off air due to a fault. Do not attempt to retune as this is likely to delete of your channels.

John Myddelton:
"We" haven't turned it off, as we are an independent help site ;) But I can tell you that the BBC have got it listed as being off-air since 6.36am this morning due to a fault.
If you happened to have tried retuning whilst it was/is off-air it will have cleared all tuning and you'll need to repeat a retune when it's back on air. I'm afraid I don't know when that'll be. You could try ringing BBC Engineering on 03700-100-123 but you may not get an answer due to the current covid-91 situation. There's probably no point as they know it's faulty and it'll get fixed as soon as manpower etc allows.

What criteria do you use to decide which programmes to transmit?
What fuelled the decision to swap film4+1 for TBN?

David McKay: Apart from PSB channels, it's generally down to which broadcaster is prepared to pay the highest amount for the available capacity. It's not decided by anyone who has any connection with this website by the way, which is an independent technical help site.
