Barry: Yes, as long as you have a Freeview HD ("DVB-T2") receiver.

My signal strength on ch52 in the Ivybridge area varies causing pixilation at times, whereas ch49 is at full strength all of the time. This occurs on both of my televisions both installed with the correct separate yellow coded aerials. Would this suggest a problem with the psb1 mux?

have just found this site & discovered that there has been 'transmitter engineering' since 6 July; this coincides with terrible reception on BBC1/2/3/4; and commercial channels - pixelating all the time in the evening - sometimes during the day I am trouble free. I found the channel retune on the menu, but hasn't made any difference, in fact it didn't do anything that I was aware of. Can anyone suggest what I can do,was advised when switchover happened, that I would benefit from a satelite dish to enable me to have all freeview channels - not interested in Sky and am quite happy with the basic tv channels - all I want to do is enjoy the stuff I want - at the moment it's unwatchable. If I record onto the HD, I can watch the next day trouble free, not very convenient though.

denise: The engineering work cleared on the 6th July, your signal should have been OK since then.

In Ivybridge we do get Gay Rabbit and Rabbit but we don't get stations like Film Four?!!! mmmmmmmm? Why's that? Don't understand this cost thing... Ivybridge has been the fastest expanding town in Europe yet we only receive Freeview Lite for the same price as other parts of the country receiving the full Freeview service..... no explanation will satisfy as it won't make sense.

Terry: After much thought, Ofcom decided that the relay masts which carried four or five analogue public service transmitters would all continue to transmit the PSB services after DSO. Hence the Freeview Lite status for Ivybridge. The licence fee pays for the transmission of the BBC channels; ITV, C4 and channel Five are each required to pay for their share of PSB2 and any use of PSB3.The requirement for the owners of the COM muxes was that coverage should be at least as good after switchover as it had been before. This meant in practice that existing sites were maintained, with a significant power increase on the largest transmitters where the number of extra viewers served justified the additional cost. This places the onus on the viewer to use the correct aerial where a main station overlaps with a relay station and reception of the COM muxes is required. Otherwise satellite reception is often possible in areas not served by a main transmitter. With regard to the Rabbit services, the capacity taken up on the mux by text services is very small, certainly not the amount necessary to support another TV channel such as Film4.

Hi KMJ... many thanks for your kind, considered and informative response which is sensible but I still find the whole business does not make sense. I understand what you are saying but there is essentially something very undemocratic and unjust about what is going on here... think beyond MUX and COM and all that... why when we pay the same as the rest of the country do we get a "budget" service... I realise there are many other areas that only receive Freeview Lite...it was always initially advertised as just Freeview... no mention of Lite? I'll just have to wait until November when the trees opposite have shed their leaves and our satellite signal comes through again...!

The Ivybridge transmitter has been off air for the last 2 hours, not as stated at the top of this page. Any idea how much longer it will be off air please.
