Why in the kendal area we only get a few channels yet in the lancaster they get far more including sky channels .dave for example . Are more channels going to be added to our area in the future . To get sky multiroom is quite expensive so it would be nice to have more variety on our freeview so if you did not want to watch what the family wants to watch you could watch one of your favourite channels on freeview

Ian Garrick: The answer to your question is basically no, and with the reason for being simply because that these additional "purely for profit" commercial services seen on main stations were only added because the operators of these transmitters were aware that revenue obtained from the users of same would exceed the installation and running costs of the transmitters, this being the opposite to what the situation would be if they were added to relay stations located in areas of low population and where the installation / running costs of same would outweigh the expected return, hence needless to say they declined Ofcoms offer to add them.

There are hundreds of PSB only muxes in the UK and with the explanation given being applicable to them all.

Ian- The muxes we're missing hold commercial channels and between them and the transmitter own they don't think the cost of running the muxes versa the available audience is worth it.

We're are being short changes, recommend you write to Tim Farron have him raise the issue

Cheers guys I didn't think we would be getting many more channels . A better variety would be nice but like every other service around here its sparse and we have to live with it . It wouldn't be so bad if we could get virgin media in this area so sky didnt have the monopoly . Nver mind thanks once again

MikeB I looked at freesat but at the time it was expensive . I have sky the freeview is just for another ctv upstairs for when anyone doesnt want to watch what the majority are watching . Its not a major gripe I just wondered why in our area we are short changed on channels .to be honest all these channels and all you seem to get are repeats . And after the big fuss when we changed over I was expecting more cannels to be added at later dates .cheers for the advice

Ian Garrick: if you allready have sky and your dish has spare outputs all you need is a cable from the lnb and a freesat box, you can pick these up for under £40

Ian Garrick: Cast a glance arround the neighbourhood to see if there are any aerials pointing at Lancaster. A group "A" aerial is required for Lancaster, pointing roughly South and set for vertical polarisation. This could give an indication if your location is within range of the full Freeview service. Also, put your postcode into the DUK postcode checker, with trade view ticked, to see a prediction for what signals are are possibly available.
