Have been receiving signal from Blackhill for years. Suddenly morning 4 July signal has become unwatchable on all channels. Signal strength normally ran about 80/90 with only occasional 1/2 bit errors. Now signal strength jumps between 0 and 80 with bit errors between 0 and 2000. There seems to be a rhythmical pattern to this 0/80 signal strength. Have tried retune and it takes a while but still picks up Blackhill. Anyone any further ideas, wondering about interference from any newly switched on transmitters close to Lochwinnoch(possibly 4G)?

we have 3 digital tvs & 1 HD with BTyouview and all experiencing fractionising, loss of picture & sound. This all started approx'y the 13th March. At our wits end having dealt with BT, Freeview and independent engineer for advice. Any help would be appreciated.

Ref Problem dated 2April Lochwinnoch Transmitter -- STV 70/80% signal 50%quality BBC 30/80% signal & 39/43% quality. This seems to be a more serious problem since others around the area are encountering poor reception. We have spent several hours over last few weeks talking through retuning etc etc with BT /Freeview and achieved NIL action. Have they lowered signal output or what!!!!! Same problem exists using a free standing locally attached TV aerial. Nothing has changed to date.

Forteith: The frequencies used by Lochwinnoch are close to those used for 4G mobile services, so it's possible that you're experiencing interference if a mobile mast in the area has recently been upgraded for 4G. There is an organisation called at800 (https://at800.tv) which has been setup to deal with these problems, if you contact them they can check if there are any 4G masts in your area and send you a free filter to connect to your aerial which will block the unwanted signals.

Thank you for that information re 4G mobile mast could be causing interference. We have felt from the beginning of March that the problem was one outwith our control. Yesterday we had a new aerial fitted to try and alleviate the fracturising of picture in all channels. This cost 90.00 as it also involved communal aerial facilities. Up to now we have been very frustrated at BT for its lack of help but surprise surprise the Youview box was updated today although interference(not as much) still exists on terrestrial channels especially with BBC 1and one of our televisions cannot receive a signal although was working perfectly up till end of February. We shall now follow your advice and contact http://at800.tv.

No reception of BBC1, BBC2 and other standard definition channels from Lochwinnoch transmitter. Seems that one multiplex is down. This has happened several times in this month and during October when I was away, several programmes failed to record from these channels due to poor signal. ITV and STV programmes are all OK.

Kenneth Johnson:
At just 2km from the transmitter it is possible that you have too much signal! Please check the signal strengths of the multiplexes you currently have amd report back. You should have between 50% and 85% for SD channels and between 60% and 85% for HD channels.
Any more than that means your TV is 'swamped' by the signals and cannot resolve all of them. The solution in that instance is to fit an attenuator in the aerial cables feeding the first item. If the signal; strengths are less than the lower of those figures then you may have an aerial fault. Start by checking all the connections by unpluggong and examining the plugs and sockets to ensure they are free from corrosion. Then put them back in and check what services you get now.
It may well be worth asking your neighbours who are also using the Lochwinnock transmitter if they are having the same problems. If they are not then it is definitely your system at fault.

MikeP:
Today at 11.00 the reception is good. On the affected channels today, signal strength is 75% and quality is 100%. I did not check these parameters yesterday, but the last time this happened (on 2 November) I found that signal strengths on BBC1 and 2 were around 70% but quality was 0 to 10% and varying a lot.
At no time were then HD channels affected, so we could watch TV but our PVR only receives standard definition signals, hence the failure to record on occasions. It appears as if it is channel 60 from the mast that is failing while the other two channels continue to operate.
