When will the Stranraer transmitter be upgraded so we can receive the same number of channels as the rest of the country?

James Arnott : Almost certainly never. The commercial broadcasters were given the opportunity to broadcasts their channels from more transmitter a few years ago, but weren't interested in doing so as the cost to install and maintain/operate the equipment on each transmitter would not allow sufficient return on investment compared to the number of extra viewers they would be able to reach. If you want more channels look at getting Freesat, which now a days has virtually all the same channels that are available on Freeview (and a good deal more) for a one off cost of a Freesat box and installation of a satellite dish and cabling (you can just reuse the existing dish and cables if your property has previously had Sky).

Dear BBC my postcode is DG9 7BT.
At the present time we have no TV signal, (18.14 23/04/2018) we are using terrestrial signal from the STRANRAER TRANSMITTER.
What is the reason for the present outage?
Would it be possible to be informed of planned engineering work before it takes place.
While I am in contact, could you inform me if and when our area will receive the full FREEVIEW CHANNELS, if the answer is negative could you answer as to the reasons why?
Thank you in expectation of your reply soonest.

John Law: No one from the BBC is going to answer you here as this isn't their website. There is no information showing as to the cause of the fault or when service will be restored (all anyone here can see is what is shown in the transmitter engineering notice in the post above yours).

With regards to when you will receive the full lineup of channels, the answer is probably never. This has nothing to do with the BBC, who do not operate any transmitters (they were sold off to a private company years ago). The commercial broadcasters do not think it is worthwhile to broadcast their channels from transmitters such as Stranraer which only cover a relatively small number of viewers. The full Freeview service is broadcast from 80 main transmitters which cover around 90% of UK households, the investment required to cover the costs of broadcasting the commercial channels from the remaining 1,000+ transmitters which take coverage to 98.5% would not produce a worthwhile return for the broadcasters. If you want more channels you should look at getting Freesat.

S.Saunders: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? Various transmitters in London and the surrounding areas have recently undergone frequency changes, however we don't know which one you're using so please provide a full postcode to enable us to access your coverage prediction.
