Hi, new to this site so please bear with me.
We live in Burley in Wharfedale (The Copse) and currently get analogue only from the Wharfedale trasmitter.
Zooming into the coverage map shows our house to be in a "white" low signal area, so I assume we will get a poor signal from the Wharfedale transmitter (and none from Emsley Moor) after DSO?
My reading so far indicates that following DSO we will be limited to Freesat, only, if we want more than the current 4 analogue (BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, Channel4) channels we currently receive.
Is this correct, or will we be able to get more channels from FreeView with the right box/built in receiver?
If we are able to use FreeView, to which transmitter should we point any new aerial following DSO?
Any recommendations for splitting any signal between rooms (expect to add an additional TV to our current 2 sometime this year)? Currently have co-ax to 4 or 5 rooms with an analogue booster/splitter in the loft.
Apologies for lengthy post, but the more I look into this the more hideous this all appears to be.

Adrian: If you currently have good analogue reception from the Wharfedale transmitter you should have no problem receiving the 3 PSB muxes which will give all BBC channels, ITV1,ITV1+1,ITV2,C4,Channel 5,E4,More4 and C4+1 plus MuxHD. I tried a postcode LS29 7QY in the Digital UK postcode checker and it showed for that area a full freeview service to be available from Emley Moor after DSO.Currently it predicts good reception for Mux1,MuxB, MuxC and MuxHD only. Glance at your neighbours aerials to see if there are any new ones installed with rods horizontal for reception of Emley Moor.

My father-in-law lives in Ilkley LS29 9EW. Could he switch to digital freeview now or will it only work after the official switch over in September.

Richard: The Digital UK postcode checker shows that there is currently no freeview service available for that postcode. When switchover takes place in September it will make the 3 PSB muxes available via the Wharfedale relay. This is a Freeview Lite transmitter and will not carry any COM muxes.

The post code checker shows a yellow shading for my post code (LS29 9SL - my house is surrounded by trees half way up Well's Rd). Does that mean that freeview is already available in my location?

Sundial: The Digital UK postcode checker shows no prediction for Freeview on today's date at your location. You are expected to have good reception from the Wharfedale relay on the 3 PSB muxes from switchover (7th September and 21st September 2011). You are also expected to have good reception at first from Addingham but this will become variable in 2012 when Bilsdale switches over and the Bilsdale COM muxes become co-channel. Finding a null for Addingham might deliver the COM muxes from Bilsdale at that time, although Digital UK offer no prediction for any reception of COM muxes at your location.

I have two tv's ready for digital and freeview and hope that the signal is going to be ok. the aerial is on the roof with a splitter in the loft. we have tried the new tv's with analogue tuning for now and the picture is very poor. but then we have tall trees in the next road which have affected out signal for ages, with the old type tv anyway.. wish they would cut them down!. we do not want to go cable or sky.. do not watch it enough for that. can you advise
please?

dru: You should probably wait to see what happens at switchover. However, as you will only get the "public service" channels, you might want to fit Freesat - see Compare Freeview Light and Freesat TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

We currently have Sky TV but are thinking about cancelling it. Can you confirm that once cancelled we will still be able to receive all the freeview channels through our sky dish? Would we then be able to buy a hard disc recorder as we live in Otley and haven't been able to use one successfully up to now (we are still using a video recorder)!!

Mandy Ellis - If you plan on giving up SKY you could consider a "Freesat" Satellite recorder with a built in Hard Drive of Which there are several produced by different manufacturers. This would also give access to iplayer and the ITV player catch up services via Broadband connection.
