It beggars belief that we're still 'behind the times' - even with a brand new transmitter aerial installed a few years ago.

Chris: The Commercial broadcasters were not mandated to mirror the coverage of the PSBs. This is down to politicians not requiring them to do so as a requirement for their licences.

Oh, I appreciate that Dave. It's just that, as you say, it's a bit of a let-down especially after being assured by both the Roadshow, and the official switch-over chap that checked my Fathers installation, that we'd be getting the FULL line-up.

Chris: If your father's aerial is on Bilsdale, then he "may" be able to receive all channels and "may" need a replacement aerial in order to do so. It is only really possible to determine if the current aerial will function once the signals are on the air.

He's right in line with the Whitby transmitter and we were assured by the chap (one of the ones that was doing the pre-switch over checks and installing free boxes for the over 75s etc) that the house aerial was OK and that we'd get everything.

Chris: From an engineering point of view he is correct; the aerial will receive all services broadcast by the Whitby transmitter.

Clearly, with the prior knowledge that one's transmitter is Lite, then some would probably opt to spend a bit more (with the Help Scheme) and go for Freesat instead.

You hit the nail on the head, there. "prior knowledge" - Prior knowledge via the Help Scheme roadshow vans and the Help Scheme chap that did the check assured ALL (inc Dave) channels via Frewview. Definite case of message being lost somewhere along the line.

Thanks for the help, and reassurance that we're getting what IS being transmitted and nothing is 'missing'.

Cheers.

Mark Edwards : Thanks for the update. All present and correct - though I'd have rather had ITV3 than Gay Rabbit!!
I agree with the threads above. I live with elderly mother, and we applied to the helpline. Because we use TV in front and rear of large house, I wanted satilite at the back when analogue died. Was told they couldn't run wires through the house because of the chimneys, and we couldn't have a box at the back because of the angle. We weren't told our transmitter was to have Freeview; if we had I'd not have paid for a dish

I'm feeling a bit let down by the lack of Dave and some other stuff as well. Besically, we've got the minimum that could be gotten away with, which is about par for the course.

I'm in a flat on Bagdale (a listed building so no dish for me :( ), and am getting good BBC reception but rather less good on the others, with artefacts and occasional break-up (probably due to crammed multiplexes). Looks like I'll have to get my old and knackered external aerial replaced with a new w-band one. Harumph.

DS: In a marginal area like Whitby, get a Group K aerial for Bilsdale if you're lucky enough to have any chance of receiving from it:
