Can you recommend the best type of aerial for G83 7AA. We are actually right between the mountains and it has always been a bad reception area. The aerial will be mounted on a static caravan,
Many thanks

Sally Black: Your only real option is this relay, which is slightly north of due west from you (282°). It requires the aerial to be polarized vertically - with the rods going up-and-down, not side-to-side.
It currently transmits analogue signals and will switch to digital starting in five weeks (11 May). If you can get a reasonably clear analogue picture now you should get good results from digital. Don't worry too much about ghosting, digital handles that better.
While it's low power, you are pretty close. My guess is that something like a 40-element log periodic could give good results - see Online TV FM DAB Aerial sales . (RG47SH)

hello.
The Arrochar transmitter has recently been switched to digital. I must say that I am very disappointed in the selection of channels that the commercial companies have put on the air. Are there any other radio channels except the BBC ones? I cannot find any mention of additional channels anywhere on the 'net'
Perhaps my aerial needs adjusting.

Bill Thompson: Sorry, but you are only able to get the "Freeview Light" service using an aerial, because of your location.
If you want more channels, you will need to use Freesat - see Compare Freeview and Freesat TV | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice and All about Freesat | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

Why is there so much engineering works going on with this transmitter? seems to be near constant reduced quality since before xmas.
Is it being upgraded to provide all the freeview channels that the rest of the country recieves? or is it just old and knackered?

Steven Naismith: I can't offer you an explanation as to why there might be frequent engineering works at Arrochar, but I can tell you that it won't be likely to be getting any more (Commercial) channels. This is because the Commercial operators decide where to broadcast from and operated on a commercial (profit) basis. See here for an explanation:

Your only way to get extra free-to-air channels is probably Freesat.

Transmitter engineering: BBC Channels of the Chiseldon relay are intermittently breaking up. My theory is a frequency clash
from "Ridge Hill" (chan 27) Two customers now same problem. Rob "Complete Aerial Service" Swindon.
