Can someone confirm that Aldburgh transmitter is really going to switchover this year (2011) as I keep hearing conflicting news. One of them being that its being shutdown completely.

Peter: Yes, on 9th/23rd November 2011 the details are at the top of the page.

No transmitter anywhere in the UK is being "shutdown completely". Indeed in this region there are several NEW transmitters.

Thanks! Thats good news. At least I wont have to adjust the aerial!
Will they be cranking up the power as well?

And where can I find information about these new transmitters as being just down from Lowestoft we seem to be in a TV fringe blackspot.

Also, any ideas when test transmissions will start?

Peter: The digital power output from this transmitter will be higher than most, which is the same level as the analogue.

New transmitter are on this map - ITV HTV West map | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

There are no test transmissions. If you look above the digital services use the same frequencies as the analogue one use now.

Ah, I get it now. As they share the same transmitter frequency they will obviously need to 'remove' the analogue service first.

Does that mean that provided I get a good strong ananlogue signal I should not find a problem with digital.

I am currently using a roof amp and a 100db indoor amp. Yes, it really is THAT bad!

Peter: Yes, thus it being called "switchover".

If you have analogue reception you will get digital reception.

A rooftop aerial is still required for stable, reliable digital reception.

Dear Brian,
when Aldeburgh goes digital, are the 'powers that be' open to suggestions to replace rubbish like Rabbit and Gay Rabbit with the far more necessary ITV 3 and ITV 4? People are going to be very annoyed they have the rubbish and not the sensible stuff. Also, I consider A to be a relatively high power relay, covering a large area not covered by main xmitters and therefore it should be required to offer more channels than one of these xmitters the power of a lightbulb.
I am most curious to know why the picture from Sky is smaller, and therefore clearer on a crt when connected via the aerial, tv tuned to a vacant channel, rather than scart
Best wishes,
Nick.

Hi

I am trying to understand why Aldeburgh appears to only be getting a limited number of chennels at the freeview switch over. We are currently in cambridge and have about 40 channels - looking on the freeview site it appears that Aldeburgh will only have about 12. Please can you clarify.

Many thanks

Jo

Nick: Jo, I have been asking that. It serves a wide area but intends to give us Rabbit and Gay Rabbit instead of ITV4 and 3.
The powers that be need a rocket.
