Why BH119SB do we keep loosing all the BBC channels then slowly thru the evening the other channels become pixcelated?

Doesn't matter whether its a tv with set top box or a straight digi tv, both on seperate aerials but the same issues?

Poole transition is poor. It's known about but no one will do anything. So for most areas of Poole signal will be well below that of the rest of the country. You pay your licence you need to complain. All you will get from this site is standard links that don't help. Ex TV employee!

I have a digital TV. Prior to switchover in March I was able to receive about 30 digital channels. Since switchover I can only receive about 15 channels reliably. Is this anything to do with the transmiter/ switchover? I feel my aerial must be ok as I received all of the channels befor swithover.

David Parkinson: I was thrown initially because you've posted on the page for the Poole transmitter. I gather that you are receiving from Rowridge as you talk about reception before switchover and Poole didn't transmit digital before switchover.

A look at Streetview shows aerials pointing at Rowridge. After switchover Rowridge transmits horizontally and vertically.

The transmission power of the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels (BBC, ITV1, C4 etc) is 200kW horizontally and vertically. The transmission power of the Commercial (COM) channels (ITV3, Pick TV, Yesterday etc) is 50kW horizontally and 200kW vertically.

Thus, re-orienting your aerial to vertical should improve the COMs.

Dave Lindsay: Further to the above posting, check that your receiver is tuned to Rowridge for the PSBs and not Canford Heath or Poole transmitters, both of which are in nearly the same direction (albeit that they transmit vertically only).

For each of the following bring up the signal strength screen and confirm that they are tuned correctly:

PSB1 | BBC One | Rowridge=C24 | Canford Heath=C45 | Poole=C57
PSB2 | ITV1 | Rowridge=C27 | Canford Heath=C46 | Poole=C60
PSB3 | BBC One HD | Rowridge=C21 | Canford Heath=C42 | Poole=C53

For example, BBC One should be tuned to C24 and not C45 (Canford Heath) or C57 (Poole).

These relay transmitters do not carry the COMs so you probably don't need to check them.

If you find any tuned incorrectly, then run the automatic tuning scan through and unplug the aerial when it gets to 30% or past C30 (if it gives UHF channel numbers during the scan). This will have the aerial unplugged whilst it scans the channels used by Canford Heath and Poole.

See this list and identify which multiplexes (groups) you are missing:

DTG :: DTT Services by Multiplex

PSB3 is the HD one.

BH15 1ZA Poor signal on some channels.
I have two TV's two freeview boxes. One is quite new, this year. the other some years old.
Aerial high up on end of building (outside)
BBC no problems. Pick-tv (11) on my boxes comes and goes, also problems with most stations above 10 to 38. Re-scan both boxes with no effect.

Matthew Wills: BBC HD changed to BBC2 HD, and all 4 HD channels have been available at all tramsitters since the switchover. More HD channels will depend on the broadcasters making them available.

Matthew Wills: BBC HD is now BBC Two HD.

All BBC services, including HD ones, are available from all transmitters. The BBC is a Public Service broadcaster.

The other channels, which are the Commercial (COM) ones (capital "C"), are not ever likely to broadcast from the Poole relay transmitter because they don't consider it worth their while. See:

Londonderry (Northern Ireland) digital TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice

The Commercial broadcasters have no "Public Service" obligation.

It may be worth investigating whether you might be able to receive all channels from Rowridge or Mendip.

As you may know, Mendip broadcasts BBC One West and ITV West. You could use Mendip as your main transmitter, feeding it into your PVR and TV. Then have a separate set-top box for Poole which you use when regional programming is being broadcast.

Unfortunately, Mendip's channels (frequencies) are such that you would not be able to combine the feed from an aerial on it with that of your Poole aerial.

Or perhaps you can receive from another of Rowridge's relays (in place of Poole) which would be able to be combined with Mendip's COMs to give you the full service.

Matthew Wills: Luscome Valley transmitter wouldn't be able to be combined with Mendip's COMs, so perhaps there are none that will that you can receive.
