Hi I have just completed the retune as requested. I have quite a few channels but some appear to be missing example Dave tv which i was looking forward to recieve. Can you tell me If i should be recieving this from my transmitter, if i am i obviously have or problem with my antenna. If it is not yet transmitted by my transmitter will other channels be added to this transmitter in due course.
Many thanks, Postcode sg13 7Bs

Paul Brennan: The Hertford transmitter doesn't carry the Commercial channels like Dave and Film 4 and probably never will. Those broadcasters work on a profit basis only. See here for a fuller explanation:

Will there ever be more services on the Freeview Light transmitters? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice

The predictor suggests that you may be able to receive the full Freeview service directly from Crystal Palace or Sandy Heath.

A look at your road on Google Streetview rather confirms these possibilities as there is a mixture of aerials on Hertford, Crystal Palace and Sandy Heath.

If you wish to retain London programming, then Crystal Palace is best if you can get it.

John: You certainly won't ever receive them from the Hertford relay transmitter. See here for an explanation:

Londonderry (Northern Ireland) digital TV transmitter | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice

You may be able to receive the full service from Crystal Palace, or perhaps Sandy Heath, although the latter carries different BBC and ITV regions.

I'm sorry if this is not the right place for this kind of post, but! we have not had a tv for a while, since the change over, we would now like to buy a tv, but do we have to have anything special done to our ariel? we did try a digi box after the change over, and it didn't work so we went without. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Hertford

T. Hill: No, not unless there is a fault with it which would have affected analogue just as digital.

For my comments below I have assumed your postcode to be SG14 2AU as the one you provided appears to be invalid. If this is incorrect then please supply the correct postcode and I will re-evaluate.

If the aerial is directed at the Hertford relay transmitter then you will only get the Public Service Broadcaster (PSB) channels which are BBC TV and radio, ITV, ITV+1, ITV2, Channel 4, Channel 4+1, E4, Film4, More4 and Channel 5. If you opt for a HD receiver then you will have access to BBC One HD, BBC Two HD, BBC Three HD, CBBC HD, ITV HD and Channel 4 HD.

The Hertford relay transmitter is on a bearing of 20 degrees and aerials are vertical (elements up/down).

You "might" be able to receive all channels from Crystal Palace, although as you don't have line-of-sight, owing to high ground in the way, then this is in no way certain and indeed in these sorts of situations reception can be seasonal owing to changes in/on the terrain, e.g. leaves on the trees.

If your aerial does face Hertford you might wish to enquire with neighbours who have Crystal Palace aerials to see how their reception is. Ensure that they are talking about Freeview reception and not satellite (Sky/Freesat).

The Hertford transmitter only appears to transmit a small number of available Freeview channels. Are there any plans to increase this number to include channels such as Dave?

Antony: There are no plans to add additional multiplexes to any transmitters. The commercial broadcasters were offered the chance to broadcast from further transmitters at digital switchover but declined, probably due to the costs involved not being worthwhile for the increased audience it would allow them to reach.
