I had figured Pitlochry transmitter was off, all by myself, but that was more than twelve hours ago. What I'd like to know is why and for how long. It's strange that nowhere in the bbc or here or even in the news is there any mention of the status of this?

tgmcewan: I would hazard a guess that it was a power failure due to the weather. Obviously where a transmitter is in rural area, then it's going to take a while for an engineer to get there.

Tom McEwan: Retuning will never fix a problem such as this, as your TV was already correctly tuned. By retuning you have probably deleted some of your channels, leaving you with no way of knowing when the problem has been fixed, other than periodically retuning until the channels return (unless you have another TV that hasn't been retuned).
