.: Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? The current hot weather conditions are causing TV and radio signals to travel much further than they normally would, resulting in interference from distant transmitters causing reception problems in various parts of the country which may be a factor. Do not attempt to retune.

No, nothing wrong with cable connections. I could get radio stations, shopping and music channels. But the normal channels just werent there

So how can I solve it? When we went digital they kept saying atmospheric disruption, channel break up and losing channels would be a thing of the past. But it seems to be getting worse every year!

.: Who said atmospheic pressure etc would be a thing of the past? Digital TV uses the same frequency bands previously used by analogue TV and there is nothing that make digital signal behave any differently to analogue when broadcast through the air.

Atmospheric conditions have affected high frequency signal transmissions for a great many years and that has not changed at all. It's not got worse or better but is subjsct the precise conditions found in the layers of the atmosphere most responsible for the propogation of RF signals. It is a perfectly natural phenomenon so noby has any control over it.

There have not been any substantiated claims that digital brodcasting will be any different from analogue. As StevensOnln1 says "there is nothing that make digital signal behave any differently to analogue when broadcast through the air."

So it is not because the transmissions are digitally encoded, analogue transmissions are equally affected.

You say its not got worse! But for the last 2-3 weeks its been terrible have only been able to get a few channels and never the ones I watch like Spike, Quest, E4. Never used to lose signal as much as now

Kept getting a message up to say a retune was needed before a certain date, but only been able to get a few channels when Im home, so dont want to do a retune and lose what channels I can get!

How can I solve it or is it a case of waiting for the conditions to change? Or getting sky?

I really have no idea now!
The freeview pvr has found all the channels tonight when Ive retuned, but cant view itv, channel 4, Channel 5, itv2 as no signal (dont know about any others) But I can get itv, channel 4 and channel 5 on the HD channels (I was given the option of the kent or london receiver) so I chose Kent
It was getting these channels before the swap over recently

Ive also retuned the tv to kent, and that can get itv, channel 4 (though it keeps breaking up) channel 5 and itv2 (keeps breaking up) dont know if it cant get any on the tv?

Other TVs in the house seem to be able to get most channels?

My pvr is new only got a few days ago

fred:

For this independent help-site to provide the best help, a full postcode is normally required to look at predicted reception at your location. However, the Faversham transmitter has recently been on Planned Engineering where you may have had Weak signal or Service interruptions.

You are always best advised NOT to retune when you have No Signal messages or pixellated pictures, are more often than not this just clears correct tuning and you have to retune when signals return to normal.
Some sets do automatic retunes which can be a real nuisance in circumstances where signals are lost, you are best advised to find the setting in your TV's tuning sections and turn it off. You should only need to retune when you see an on-screen message to do so. These days that should be a very rare event.
If you manually retuned when you lost signal, try retuning again.
