Belynda Giles: If these house numbers are within one of the blocks of flats which are all fed by a communal aerial system then the answer must be a fault with that system. The fault could be that power has been lost to the amplifier or that the amplifier or its power supply has become defective. Either way, you need to contact the party responsible for the system so that they can get it put right.

Belynda Giles: Looking at the situation from another angle. As Mendip, the station indicated as covering your area, is on the engineering list under the heading of "possible weak signal, which in your case of being located at approximately 27 miles away from the transmitter could result in no signal being received, therefore, if by any chance you carried out a retune whist the signal was down? this action will have deleted everything stored in the tuners memory, creating the situation of frequent retunes being necessary to recover / reload the channels back into said memory.
Should though the aforementioned not be applicable in your particular case, then if, which appearances might possibly suggest, you are connected into a communal aerial system? it would be prudent to make an enquiry with a neighbour to ascertain if they are also suffering from the same problem with reception as yourself.
The point being, that although engineering work might well be in progress of being carried out, the signal is never turned down for any more than about an hour or so at the most.

Yes, you shpuld be able to get signals from Mendip, according to the digitaluk.trade website at Coverage Checker - Detailed View and as shown underneath your posting.
The potential for reception problems exists in that the signals will have to traverse the hill having Sandy Lane (with a nice pub if you're interested) and the radio transmitters at the top, and Bromham as well. From your location, the terrain is uphill to the Calne Freeview Lite transmitter and again it's uphill towards Mendip.
You would need a group C/D or a wideband aerial with the cross rods horizontal, they are vertical for Calne and Group A. The aerial for Mendip should point roughly South West on a bearing of 244 degrees, that is a little to the south of the Calne mast which at 263 degrees. It would be best to consider the future and invest in a good log-periodic aerial that will receive current and future planned services. A decent Log36 would probably be ideal, such as that offered here - Online FM DAB TV Aerial sales

Gautham: Going by the coverage map at the top of this page, the Calne transmitter wouldn't cover Wootton Bassett. Mendip would likely be the best option but if you enter the postcode of your new property you'll be able to access a prediction of the transmitters available to you.

I used to live near Lineham and Calne transmitter does not coveranything outside of a limited area of Calne. It is mainly an 'in fill' transmitter for those areas of Calne, such as parts of Oxford Road and parts of London Road, that are screened from the main Mendip transmitter by the hills at Sandy Lane and Derry Hill.
Royal Wootton Bassett is admirably covered by the full service Mendip transmitter. Look at Which Freeview channels does the Mendip transmitter broadcast? for details of the transmitter and the channels it uses.

You need a log-periodic aerial mounted externally above the roof, they are usually mounted on a chimney stack.
I use one of the type mentioned at Online FM DAB TV Aerial sales = other makes and suppliers are available.
