I live near the top of the hill in Denton and lived in Bishopstone near Seaford previously (inc. BN - Before Newhaven) and have always been fortunate enough to receive a good signal from Brighton.
This summer I (and a neighbour) had problems with the Newhaven signal pixellating and dropping out so I have made sure that I only receive signals from Whitehawk by manually tuning the receiver(s). This process is detailed elsewhere and can involve only connecting the aerial after 80-odd percent of the tuning process has been completed (and then careful checking with transmitter details) - time consuming but worthwhile!
Weather conditions can still give the occasional problem eg last weeks mist and fog but generally tv life is good.
Hope this might help someone on highish ground east of Brighton......

I tunned in to C50 on my TV and had untill yesterday all BBC channels and then they disappear and I cant reselect C50. I live in BN32RP
Very frustrating. All BBC channels used work perfectly and then a few months ago all gone. Managed to get them back yesterday using help from this site but this morning they are gone again!
Very frustrating. Any help

Simon: Your postcode puts you in Hove, yet you are attempting to tune to the Newhaven transmitter. The one on Whitehawk Hill is probably the one you want. In any case, the BBC region from both transmitters is the same, it being BBC South East.
The UHF channel for Whitehawk's BBC services is 60.
The ITV region of the two transmitters is different: Newhaven carries ITV Meridian (East) whereas Whitehawk has ITV Meridian (South).

Who knows Leanne, as ever not even the courtesy of an explanation as to what is going on. I can't see there's a power supply issue, nothing on the website for that postcode.
I can only think it's a physical issue on the mast and it's dangerous to work on it in the weather.
A simple "this is what the issue is and we reckon it'll be this long to fix" would be nice eh?

Newhaven transmitter now working again (time is now 23.10 hrs) on both TV and DAB radio. As you said, it would have been nice to know exactly what was wrong - because after all, they would hardly be out working on the mast at this time of night and in this atrocious weather.

Ian Farrow: While it's always nice to know what's going on, what you can do with that information is limited. I mean, you're hardly going to drive to the transmitter with a portable generator if the power is down or go with your tools/laptop to break in and fix the problem, are you?

Ian Farrow : As far as I am aware, the problem was caused by a tree having fallen across the power line feed to the station thereby killing the power supply to same.
