We sit slightly downhill from the TV and phone masts. Despite replacement aerial (chimney pole) and cables, the signal from Redcliff has degraded to provide only the occasional BBC1 & 2 (not weather dependent). Is this due to the increasing use of 3 commercial phone transmitters within 200 yards. I believe there are 5 phone masts and the police transmitter within about half a mile? Also is there interference from the Welsh TV masts? We previously received both English and Welsh (Cardiff) analogue channels.

Eve: If you were going to have problems with 4G, they should have sent you a filter. If you click on the terrain link and the DigitalUK one, they reckon you can use Mendip with no bother (or Wenvoe), which would give you a full service. Frankly, if your signal is so degraded that you only get occasional reception on BBC1 when your just a km away from a transmitter, there must be something seriously wrong with your system, or you are tuned into a very distant transmitter.

MikeB: A map with contours might change their mind about Mendip.
If you send a vey large bulldozer or a few tons of dynamite to move some hills, 2 nature reserves, a few hundred people in their homes together with Avon Police Headquarters.
We could receive a variable analogue signal from Cardiff. Perhaps affected by the Severn tides and mudflats? The Redcliff relay station was built after a campaign for those reasons. Our experience is that the signal strength from Wales is not enough for digital - a friend tried 2 aerials. We have been told that the signal is not directed to us in England and that is important for digital. Aerial, cables & booster already all professionally renewed. Satellite it is then?

Eve:
Have a look at your aerial and try to determine the compass bearing it is pointing towards. Then look at the "E's DigitalUK tradeview" alongside your posts and check which transmitter is at that compass bearing from your home. Once you have decided which transmitter it points to, try manually tuning to the channels used by that transmitter. You can find those on this website or by doing a search online.

Mendip may be the nearest 'full service' transmitter but the hills around Portishead and between there and the Mendip mast could be a problem, especially if you're in one of the lower dips.

Eve: That said in your reply to MikeB rather indicates that reception in your area has a history of being somewhat problematic.

However, if your neighbours are also experiencing similar problems with reception from the Redcliff relay, then irrespective of whether or not you received a filter though the post, the fact of the Mux channel numbers used by the Redcliff relay being in the range that is most susceptible to being affected by any potential 4G transmission, i.e: 60 - 53, I wouldn't do any harm to give AT800 a ring to find out if there are any newly installed 4G transmitters being tested out in your area.

AT800 info desk being contactable on "weekdays only" between 08.00 - 1800 hrs.

Eve: Sorry, but I was going by the terrain plot, which seemed pretty promising, which is much the same story from Wolfsbane: UK digital TV reception predictor Thats the odd thing - you're right on the coast, and the Wenvoe signal pattern Wenvoe (Cardiff, Wales) Full Freeview transmitter | ukfree.tv - 12 years of independent, free digital TV advice indicates you should be able to pick up that transmitter with no problem, although if you can't, thats the way it is. However, you said 'We have been told that the signal is not directed to us in England and that is important for digital' - the signal pattern says otherwise. I think Dave Lindsay and JB38 have a mystery....

MikeB: You are of course quite correct in what you have said, insomuch that Megalithia does "not" indicate that there are any obstructions to the signal path from either the Mendip or Wenvoe transmitters on the P/Code supplied by Eve, and indeed DUK's reception predictor does indicate that good reception should be possible from either transmitter at said location.

But though, post codes are not by any means always precise enough for reception predictors as post codes can in many cases cover quite large areas, not of course that anything concerning airborne RF signals including ERP's are really ever that accurate, but as Eve would appear to reside roughly half way up a hill, it could well be the case that large variations in signal levels are experienced at either end of it, albeit that the top side of the hill is, as expected, where the mass of communication aerials are positioned.

If you have no satellite signal, see Sky Digibox says 'No Signal' or 'Technical fault'

If you have other problems, please provide a full (not partial) postcode (or preferably enter it in box at the top right) and indicate where if aerial is on the roof, in the loft or elsewhere.
