Where are Channels Film 4, Dave, Yesterday, 5 USA, 5*, Pick TV, Really, Quest Challenge, Food Network (all advertised in the Radio Times)on the local transmitter. Will they ever appear.
The lack of Film 4 is particularly annoying. I don't consider the space allocated to Rabbit and Gay Rabbit as being more important.

It doesn't matter what you regard as important, the Broadcasting Act 1996 makes space for the teletext services on all transmitters.

Tony Maggs: You are predicted to have good reception on all muxes both now and after switchover (23rd November 2011) from Tacolneston. Sudbury is also shown as possibly offering all muxes from 27th June 2012.

I'd rather not have to erect an external aerial, and would rather use a one in the loft, hence my question about the limited range of programs that will be available from the Thetford Transmitter and if these will be extended in the future.
I should point out that the freeview reception in Thetford at present is not paticularly reliable (with an external aerial) and is prone to pixilating and complete failure in poor weather.

Tony Maggs: Thetford appears to be a Freeview "Light" PSB channels only relay and with this situation not forecast to change, however as its located at 346 degrees from you at least you are on the correct side of it once it starts transmission on November 9th on BBC only, (all three Mux's on the 23rd) as the radiation pattern shows the signal as being directed Southerly in a squashed (top and bottom) heart shape.

However, Tacolneston switchover stage two also occurs on November 23rd, and with its reception being predicted as good on all its six multiplexes at your location, that is unless any local obstructions exist in your area that's liable to block the signal, as predictors cannot really cater for that type of possibility.

You are even forecast as being able to receive it at present, although not really of the same standard as come the 23rd of November, so there really isn't anything to stop you trying out a loft aerial, one very suitable type being seen on the link and which I can personally recommend as I use two of them, and although they have a built in booster its simplicity to by-pass it should a signal eventually be too strong.

I wouldn't normally suggest such as Screwfix for aerials, but this is one occasion where they are selling a quality item at considerably less than Argos, who charge £52.00 for the same thing.

We recieve from the Abbey transmittor in Thetford for our Freeview digital signal. We appear to have a limited service. Please could you clarify that this is normal for people recieving from this transmitter and if it is, will get the full service shortly.
Thank you

P Ricketts: Unfortunately it is not likely that Thetford will ever broadcast the Commercial services. They achieve a 90% coverage of the population by broadcasting from 81 of the largest transmitters (largest by viewer population). To include over 1,000 small relays, of which Thetford is one, would roughly double their cost of transmission whilst only adding 8.5% of the population to their potential viewer-base. As they operate on a profit-driven basis where they sell advertising, they want to get as many viewers as possible at lowest cost.

The channels that Thetford carries are the Public Service ones. The Commercial broadcasters have no "Public Service" obligation.

The best you can do is investigate the possibility of receiving from one of the transmitters that carries the Commercial channels.

For switchover, Tacolneston had a replacement taller mast built, so this will mean it will reach parts that it wouldn't previously.

As a test, I put the post code of the ACF Training Centre on Croxton Road into the Digital UK Tradeview predictor and it thinks that excellent reception from Tacolneston may be possible at that location:

Postcode Checker - Trade View

If reception is not possible from Tacolneston at your location, then you may be able to receive from another transmitter such as Sandy Heath and combine that with your current aerial on Thetford so as to give you your current Anglia East regional programming.
