Transmitter engineering: I live in AB437AN and was wondering if the Rosehearty tv transmitter will be upgraded to the same as Durris near Aberdeenshire, lots of channels in Durris .

Alan Booth:

The chances of this happening, especially in the current climate, are virtually zero. Although the transmitter serves around 10,000 homes, the commercial operators wouldn't consider the capital expenditure that would be required (for the transmitters and links) to be a viable proposition. That's also on the assumption that channels for such additional multiplexes would be available without causing interference to other transmitters.

It could depend on the exact location in your postcode as to whether you'd get any reception from Durris for the commercial multiplexes in particular. For some locations the predictions are zero. for others it's poor and unlikely to be reliable.

Your best option would be to consider Freesat. A lot of modern TVs have a Satellite tuner built-in, so all you'd need would be the Dish and LNB.

Alistair Mowatt:

The Rosehearty transmitter does not have FM or DAB (you don't say which your reception problem is on).

If it's FM, the most likely transmitter is Meldrum roughly to the SSW of you, and the BBC are reporting -
From 10:11am to 3:46pm on 14th Oct 2021 BBC Radio 2 Slightly reduced power due to essential engineering.
Radio 2 is on 88.7 from there. The next nearest transmitter is Knockmore roughly to the WSW of you, Radio 2 on 88.2 and not reporting any faults.

If it's DAB, most likely reception is from Mormond Hill roughly to the SSE of you, the other possibility is Rumster Forest to the NW of you. Neither are reporting any problems.

Graham: According to the post above yours, Rosehearty transmitter has been off air due to a fault since 6:36 this morning. Do not attempt to retune as this is likely to delete your channel list, just wait for the signal to return when the transmitter fault is fixed.

And that was no doubt due to a power outage, there are still many in adjacent/nearby areas.
