Dorian:

Please carefull check all your arial cables and connections. Unplug all the plugs/sockets and then refit them, that will clear any corrosion/oxidation from the contacts whci is a common cause of the problems you report.

Terry Mason:

Without a bit more information such as your full postcode (or one of a very nearby pub or shop) it's difficult to know how much of an obstruction to the signal from Dallington Park this tower block is. Some parts of your area will get a good signal but it's only a 50W transmitter, so an indoor aerial may not do.

If your aerial is pointing at Sutton Coldfield, you may only be getting variable reception from there for some/all multiplexes whereas your area generally will get good signals from Sandy which you could be getting ofF the back of your aerial. You might get Dallington park off a side lobe or even possibly within the beamwidth of your aerial (less likely) as Sutton Coldfield is compass bearing 300 degrees, Sandy Heath bearing 106 degrees, Dallington Park 235 degrees.

I'd guess it's Sandy, because both Sutton & Sandy are horizontally polarised, whereas Dallington Park is vertical, but when you are that close anything is possible! The best way is if you check which UHF channels those Anglia and Look East multiplexes are on. I'll list each transmitter for you, Dallington Park only has PSBs mind.

In the multiplex order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, COM7
The UHF channels are -
Sutton Coldfield C43, C46, C40, C42, C45, C39, C55
Sandy Heath C27, C24, C21, C33, C36, C48, C55
Dallington Park C23, C26, C30

I have an aerial facing Birmingham (West midlands) I get a good picture. When time it quite regularly as and when required, I get Anglia and look East on channels 800 801 802. but these channels can be good around news time but, pixalate or lose its tuning just as the local news comes on. I don't know if these signals are coming from Dallington or sandy?
I am 80 years old and start putting up New aerials is a no no. I have tried indoor aerials,no signal we do have school tower block in Trinity ave between us and you.
Any ideas.? Terry Mason

Terry Mason:

According to Freeview and the BBC checkers, all numbers in your postcode are predicted to get good reception from Dallngton Park despite the tower block.
All numbers are predicted to have variable reception of Sutton Coldfield COMs and high numbers also the PSBs. High numbers may also have variable reception from Sandy Heath, but the lower numbers should get good reception with one or two odd exceptions.

As I've already suggested, the easiest way to discover which signals you are getting is to look in your TV tuning section (or maybe an "info" choice on a given channel - depends on TV set) and see which UHF channel from the lists I've given you are actually getting for the various multiplexes.

John Lucibello :

I can't find any reports of faults at Dallington Park (or its parent Sandy Heath) in the last 5 days.
As you haven't given a full postcode, we can't check your predicted reception either.
The channels you've mentioned are carried on the ArqB/COM6 multiplex which is not transmitted from Dallington Park as it's a Freeview Light transmitter with only the 3 PSB multiplexes, so your aerial could be pointing at Sandy Heath (Anglia) or even possibly Waltham (Central).
For which TV channels are carried on which multiplex, see Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview
you should also be missing other channels on ArqB/COM6.

There's also the possibility you may be suffering interference from a new/upgraded phone mast and perhaps had a postcard from https://restoretv.uk/post…ure/

When you found some channels missing (whatever the cause might have been) I hope you didn't retune - you cannot tune to signals that aren't there, the usual effect is to clear your correct tuning.
If you did retune, the signals may have returned and you won't know as you may no longer be tuned to them.

Without that full postcode, we can't offer any further advise other than to check some obvious things -
Check that your aerial is still pointing correctly and that the downlead isn't flapping in the wind. Check all you accessible coax connections to ensure there is no corrosion or water, and everything is plugged in correctly.
