No TV signal for nearly 16 hours now...have tried retuning the TV to no avail. Arrochar transmitter in full view and no engineers in attendance. Have been advised by ITV that the problem is due to cloud but why are we getting limited access to BBC? G83 7AH. Please advise asap.

Carol Illingworth: I've observed that the Arrochar transmitter gets its feed from the one at Ardentinny, which is 13 miles away and broadcasts at only 14W. Therefore it's not beyond the realm of possibility that reception might be hampered by the weather.

Carol Illingworth : The Adintinny transmitter, as referred to by Dave Lindsay, has been operating on reduced quality from 22.14hrs yesterday (the 9th), this just about matching up with the timespan you have reported that Arrocher has been down.

There is NO TV reception here in Arrochar since yesterday (1st) and before that very poor. It is nor acceptable when we have no choice of any other service provider (cable or satellite) surely we should get the same service as other people WE PAY THE SAME LICENCE FEE. Could it be put down to discrimination?????????????

Capt Bill Lowe: But it says above 'The BBC and Digital UK report there are no faults or engineering work on the Arrochar (West Dunbartonshire, Scotland) transmitter. '
Now that does not mean there isn't a problem, just one that has not been reported. However, if its not the transmitter, then logically its your system at fault. Check connections, etc.
BTW - is there any particular reason you cannot get a satellite signal? If your surround by mountains or hill which make it impossible to 'see' the satellite, then OK. But if you can, you'll get far more channels than you do now.

Capt Bill Lowe / (MikeB) : Although as MikeB has correctly said, insomuch that no faults (as yet) is reported on DUK's TX engineering page concerning the Arrochar relay station, however the Radio & Television investigation service does indicate a series of intermittent "reduced quality" problems from the Sep 29th until 13.12 today, or 13.14 where the HD channels are concerned.

James Howe:
It's weather conditions I'm afraid. There is moderate Temperature Inversion/Tropospheric Ducting affecting large parts of the UK at present. Do NOT retune, it will more likely remove your correct tuning.
These conditions are predicted to ease later on Wednesday.
Despite the incorrect spelling, this link does work - simple technical explanation

Essentially it results in interfering signals from other transmitters in the UK or Europe reaching you and so your wanted signals are disrupted.
The BBC have a current warning on their Arrochar transmitter page.

Transmitter engineering: I must be the last person in Arrochar to complain about no tv signal. This has been going on for months and you couldn't care less,
Every day we lose the signal at some time during the day and its always put down to the weather.
We only get about 10 free view channels which is not bad for the area.
For the first time in my life, I am 74 , I tend to agree with the tory party, its time the BBC was scrapped.
