The symbol shows the location of the Wenvoe (Cardiff, Wales) transmitter which serves 360,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Wenvoe (Cardiff, Wales) mast?

Gareth Prosser:

I can't find and current or recent faults listed for Wenvoe and there's no current Planned Engineering listed.

If there was a Wenvoe transmitter fault there would be many posts about it, so this suggests a problem with your own installation.

Have you checked the connections behind your TV? Have you changed anything in your setup at all?

I would check that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction and that your downlead looks undamaged (especially if it is old).

Also check all your coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads are a common problem, try swapping/changing them. See what signal strengths and quality you are getting for the multiplexes (groups of channels) shown in your TV's tuning section, that information may indicate issues with your aerial or downlead or possibly any distribution amp/splitter you may have.
Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.

Little, or no signal, on channel 55 over the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Derek Matravers:

Do you currently have "no signal" on UHF C55 or is it just not tuned - maybe you did a retune when you lost signal (may have been weather conditions a couple of weeks ago) and this cleared the tuning?
Try a Manual tune on UHF C55.

Unfortunately we have those "weather conditions" again right now - Temperature Inversion/Tropospheric Ducting affecting large parts of the UK and disrupting signal for some, so you may have to try that manual retune several times.

I would check that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction and that your downlead looks undamaged (especially if it is old) and is secure and not flapping in the wind.

Also check all your coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads are a common problem, try swapping/changing them. See what signal strengths and quality you are getting for the multiplexes (groups of channels) shown in your TV's tuning section, that information may indicate issues with your aerial or downlead or possibly any distribution amp/splitter you may have..

Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just AN individual, or several multiplexes.

There are currently or recently no reported faults at Wenvoe, there would be a lot more people posting if there was.

Bernard Tyson: '/

No faults are being reported at Wenvoe that I can find and it's not currently listed for Planned Engineering.
Sky Arts (LCN11) is carried on the ArqA multiplex.
See Channel listings for Industry Professionals | Freeview for which channels are carried on which multiplex (groups of channels).
Are you missing any other ArqA channels at all?

It would be worth checking in your TV tuning section that you are correctly tuned to Wenvoe's UHF channels.
When Freeview juggled a lot of channels LCNs towards the end of January and you probably retuned, Wenvoe was listed for Planned Engineering and there may have been weak signals at the time you retuned and some multiplexes may have inadvertently tuned to another transmitter - there are several you could pick up at your locale.

The UHF channels for Wenvoe are C41, C44, C47, C42, C45, C39, C55, C37 that's in the multiplex order BBCA/PSB1, D3&4/PSB2, BBCB HD/PSB3, SDN/COM4, ArqA/COM5, ArqB/COM6, COM7, Local.
(C means UHF channel).

If you are correctly tuned and still have a problem, I would check that your aerial seems intact and pointing in the correct direction (bearing 227 degrees, pretty much SW for your locale) with the rods (or squashed Xs) horizontal, and that your downlead looks undamaged (especially if it is old) and is secure and not flapping in the wind.

Also check all your coax plugs, connections, flyleads etc, unplug connectors check for corrosion or other problems and reconnect them. Flyleads are a common problem, try swapping/changing them. See what Signal Strengths and Quality (or Error/BER) figures you are getting for the multiplexes (groups of channels) shown in your TV's tuning section, that information may indicate issues with your aerial or downlead or possibly any distribution amp/splitter you may have.

Problematic connections, water ingress etc. can seem to affect reception of just an individual or several multiplexes.

It seems to me that Mux 55 has now completely disappeared from Wenvoe? Is that correct? If so, please update the information on the website.

Patrick: COM7 closed completely on 30th June. The owner of this website has been unable to keep up with all the changes which have taken place across hundreds of transmitters over the last few years as part of the 700MHz clearance.

Thank you - it sounds like a lifetime's work and is appreciated. Maybe Freeview should / could give the website owner some help in the interest of keeping data on this valuable website current? Patrick
