There's been a lot of "Tropospheric Ducting" around causing interference, see Effect of tropospheric ducting on Freeview | RTIS for a simplistic explanation.
It's likely to continue on and off for a day or two more.

The BBC are even reporting reception from this transmitter being disrupted by these atmospheric conditions -
From 9:02pm on 18th Sep 2020 to 2:29am on 19th Sep 2020 Weather conditions may be affecting your reception

Thanks Chris & everyone else who posted / informed about Millburn Muir Transmitter, hopefully it improves soon.
Another question I have not related, does anyone know roughly how many people are on ariel only through out Scotland and having to pay full tv license for a vastly reduced service, I'm thinking of having another go at local MP to approach Minister to see if we can get a reduction in fee. Unfortunately no joy the last time I tried, so don't hold out much hope.

John Watson:

I doubt you'll even be taken seriously. Indeed the suggestion is more likely to be that you pay more tax so that there can be investment in things that may help reduce the effects that make climate change more severe!
Unfortunately you live in a location that has to be served by a relay transmitter because of the terrain (last time I checked Scotland was quite hilly in places!). The services you don't get are those run by commercial operators (not funded by the licence fee). They do not consider it worth the investment in transmission equipment because of the small population served by the transmitter.
If you want more services then consider Freesat - your set may have a built in Freesat tuner so all you'd need is Dish and LNB.
