The symbol shows the location of the Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) transmitter which serves 1,550,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Emley Moor (Kirklees, England) mast?

Mike - I'd be asking much the same question as Ian from notts - if you've got a Freeview box/PVR rather than Freeview in the TV, the fact that you got sound and no picture would point to a scart being loose.

I live in linthwaite Huddersfield, HD75PN, Over the last week i have seen a deteriation in the freeview signals for QVC, Quest ITV3, Davejavu, by Saturday the 1St of June these channels became unwatchable, I have the same problem on both my ground floor TV and bedroom TV, which are on seperate quality aerials with signal amplifiers, the aerials are pointing to The Emley Moor Transmitter, the fact that the TVs are on separate aerials seems to eliminate problems with my equipment, I have retuned both TV sets and now lost any trace of the above channels. but something has changed ? thank you for any help

David Waterhouse: While you may be only 8 miles from Emley Moor, you do not have line-of-sight.

The large aerials on tall poles probably tells its own story; you aren't in a good area. Some houses are using the Cop Hill Public Service relay transmitter.

Google Streetview, Google satellite and Bing satellite images show Black Rock Mills with one or perhaps two buildings, which are possibly derelict. Bing Bird's Eye shows some more buildings.

I note various planning permission requests over the last few years for this site. Might this development be the cause of your issue?

Hi Dave Lindsay, I understand what you are saying, but nothing has changed in the last few days , black rock mills has virtually gone anyway and the roof was at a lower level than the hieght of my aerial being down in the valley bottom. Nothing seems to have changed at my end at least, the last time I had problems simular to this was when work was being carried out at the emley moor transmitter a few years ago, alas no work or problems have been reported.

David Waterhouse: Saddleworth's COM channels are co-channel (same frequencies), albeit that the former are vertically polarised.

Is it the strength that has gone or the quality that has gone?

Go to the manual tune part of the receiver. Select UHF channel 51 but don't press the button to scan as prior to scanning, receivers often act as a signal meter.

How does this compare to the strength of the four other standard definition channels?:

BBC One(C47); ITV(C44); Pick TV(C52); Film4(C48).

Savid Waterhouse- i know you said you are recieving from emley moor, but with relays being around the tuning may still state so even if your tv's are picking up the relay signals,
double check the frequency numbers with the ones Dave Lindsey has provided

Dave Lindsay On CH51 the signal strength is about 2.5 outof 10, as compared to CH47 the signal strength is about 4 out of 10 on C52 the signal strenghth is about 4 out of 10, C48 the signal strength s about 3 out ofd 10

David Waterhouse: It's going to sound like I'm stating the obvious: it seems like the signal level has dropped on that channel. The point being that it may have been that the strength of C51 wasn't affected but the quality was.

The level of the other channels isn't great either.

The only suggested explanation I can give is that there has been some building work gone on. Perhaps a change of roof tiles or installation of solar panels.

The signal path intersects Gillroyd Lane, just north of Meadow Green and near to the bus stops. There are houses, as well as trees in the area:

David Waterhouse- Just for elimination process, can you remove the amp from 1 of the sets and re-check the signal figures ?
