Peter: yes, for the past few days the weather conditions have been such that in some areas signals that normally give good reception have been subject to interference from distant transmitters resulting in glitching and the dreaded 'no signal' being displayed for various periods of time, whilst some services were received loud and clear tens or hundreds of miles outside their normal range. If you retuned because the normal programmes were not being received it is likely that services you have been watching for the past week were from different transmitters to the one that your aerial is pointing to. Once conditions changed or returned to normal the strength of the alternative signals would diminish or the signals disappear altogether, making another retune necessary to restore the correct channel list.

Hi, Brian (Briantist). Your Transmitter engineering info for Hemel Hempstead DAB today is appearing on the Hemel Hempstead Full Freeview web page instead of its DAB page. Probably a simple enough glitch for you to sort! Richard, Norwich.

Richard Cooper: I don't think it's a glitch. If you look around the site you'll see it's always done that for all transmitters. There probably isn't anything on the feed from BBC Engineering to differentiate between which page each message should appear on for the transmitter affected.

There will be 2 retune events at Hemel Hempstead in March & April 2018:

21 March 2018: ArqB moves from Channel 55 to Channel 29.

18 April 2018: The PSB muxes BBC A/B & D 3+4 all move down one UHF channel from their present positions.

BBCA & D 3+4 swap places.

SDN Moves to Channel 37. ArqA moves to Channel 31.

I live in a small retirement estate in Abbots Langley (WD4.) Last Wednesday, our TVs were automatically retuned. We have since had no reception on many of our Freeview Channels. An aerial engineer visited, and claim the fault lay with the Transmitter. He said the missing channels should return within a few days.

We have now waited 5 days - manually retuning our TVs, which we were told would be necessary.

There has been no imprrovement.

Can you please help us?

Thank you.

Sue Curran: The engineering work related to the recent frequency changes was completed early in the morning at most affected transmitters. Engineering work of this type does not last for several days and there are no recent faults showing. So far only one group of channels have changed frequency at the Hemel Hempstead transmitter, however further changes are due to take place on 18th April. Which channels are you missing? You may need a new wideband aerial fitted, however you should be eligible to have this carried out free of charge if you don't have satellite or cable, which can be arranged by contacting the Freeview Advice Line (see link below).

john: It won't. It is being reported elsewhere that the BT Showcase channel is closing as BT are no longer required to show any free football matches on Freeview (some matches will be available to watch for free via BT Sport's website etc).

I depend on a communal aerial.
It already needs adjusting after the March 2018 retune, which affected COM6.
In order to inform my management company, what exactly is changing on 18th April 2018?
Another question - why is it so difficult to get this information?
