Hi.

We live in post code G63 0BS.

Ever since the switch over we only get Mux 2 and not 1, A, B, C or D.

Bought new Bush Freeview box and scart lead.

I've trawled all of the help sites and done dozens of tips and advice, but no luck.

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Gary Miller: I would suspect that you now have too much signal. You are served now by four transmitters.

If you have any boosters or amplifiers, remove them from your system.

If you don't, you might have to fit an attenuator to reduce the signal levels.

Gary Miller:

Hi. I've now carried out all of the diagnostics recommended here with no success.

The rooftop aerial is about 18 months old. The Bush Freeview box, brand new, does not allow us to re-tune manually.

Any ideas please?

Thanks!

Briantist:

Thanks for the response.

No boosters are attached. I don't think we need an attenuator. The Bush Freebox instructions tell us that, if receiving signal from more than one source, then we are given the choice to select the transmitter we want.

As we are given no choice of transmitter, I concluded that we are only receiving signal from the Killearn transmitter.

It's very frustrating as none of our neighbours are having any problems at all.

I'm beginning to think it's the rooftop aerial. It was installed by the council about 18 months ago, when work on the chimney damaged the original one.

Any other tips I can try?

Thanks!

Gary Miller: I would suspect the aerial. Anyway, it should be pointing at Rosneath or Black Hill where you will receive all six multiplexes from. You will only get Freeview Light from Killearn or Millburn Muir.

Gary Miller: When you say that your neighbours are not having any problems is this on a "like for like" basis? in other words them receiving with no problems exactly what you cannot? if they are, then does their aerial point in the same direction as yours, and if not what direction?

I will say that trade predictor does show that you should be able to receive signals from Blackhill, Roseneath and Milburn Muir, however although the trade predictor can in many instances be a reasonably accurate reference source, in my experience it is also prone to showing some fanciful indications of what's possible, (or not as the case may be!) and as most signals reaching the Drymen(?) area from further a field generally has to pass over forestry ground of one sort or another, this can affect what is actually received in real life.

That aside though, the crux of the matter rests with what you find out regarding what your neighbours receive and where their aerial points.

Gary Miller: Also meant to add, that what would help you in determining the reason for your problem irrespective of what the cause, would be if your neighbour was amenable to the idea of letting you re-scan your box on their aerial.

Should you manage that, do NOT be tempted to try any further re-scans at any time until after you have sorted the problem out, as all you would do is to lose what has been stored in your boxes memory locations.

Re-scans should only really be carried out after any transmitter updating alterations etc, albeit that most people do make the mistake of automatically carrying out a re-scan at the first sign of their signal going down, this resulting in them having to carry out frequent re-scans to try and recover the lost channels, as they wont come back once lost from the memory, whereas if they had just things as they were the channel (s) would have returned of their our accord.

The Stv reception in the Killearn area has been terrible over the last 2-3 wks. Freezing frame, missing words, pixel picture distortion all the time - very frustrating. Many people have complained on our local Facebook page. Thought at first it was my aerial but phoned my local. Aerial guy & he said lots of people are complaining about the same thing. Please can you/an engineer check out our transmitter. Please note the other half of the village use the Darvel transmitter- we cannot because we are on the wrong side of the hill!! Any help you can give us all would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

John reid:

There isn't currently any reports of any outage, or power cut or Planned Engineering.
If there was a brief interruption, it may have gone unreported.
If you retuned at all when you had no signal or badly pixellated pictures it may have just cleared the correct tuning. If so, try manual retuning on UHF channels C32, C34 (& C35 if you have HD).

Other than that, check that your aerial looks intact and is still pointing in the correct direction and that the downlead is secure and not flapping in the wind. Check all your coax connections behind the TV etc.
Have you altered/changed anything about with your equipment recently? Do you have any distribution amp/splitter etc.?
