The symbol shows the location of the The Wrekin (Telford and Wrekin, England) transmitter which serves 280,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the The Wrekin (Telford and Wrekin, England) mast?

Steve: the main power increases are over 10 dB, a 10x increase in power. It's reckoned that only 1/10th the power (-10dB) is required to serve the same area as analogue. Most transmitters, including The Wrekin, are only having a 1/5th reduction from their analogue power level (-7dB), so are twice as powerful as needed, and should actually cover a larger area than the former analogue coverage area.

Mux 2 and A have always transmitted in 64QAM 2/3. In 1998, all multiplexes used this mode - after ITV Digital failed, the regulator (ITC at the time) required a change of mode for the three re-auctioned multiplexes (B, C and D) to improve coverage. The BBC followed suit with their main multiplex, Mux 1.

The change in modulation increases the capacity of multiplexes 1, C and D by 25%, so you get more channels. The increased capacity on Mux 1 is taken by the BBC services currently on Mux B, because that changes technology and mode to provide HD services.

More advance than "IPTV through FTTH"

Which I am guessing means "Internet Protocol TV through Fibre To The Home"

I am still have problems getting MUX channel 53 and 57 from both the Cefn Mawr and Wrekin transmitters on lg tv (built in freeview) and seperate freeview box - tuners just ignore both - and get the dreaded no signal message - it has been this way since October 2009. Think we will have to wait until end of September 2011 to get this sorted. Don't know which numpties did the planning of space for allocation of channels, but I bet their salary will be in the six digit figures - should have got Braintist to do it instead!!

Got wideband aeriel with booster pointing to Wrekin btw.

thodkin - I get them both OK with an unamplified rooftop ae in Chirk. What are you using?

If you are actually in Llan I presume the hills get in the way. Do you have neighbours? I know a good local tv ae man if you need.

thodkin: Your problem is that Cefn Mawr uses channel 53 for the BBC A mux and C57 for the D3+4 mux, while the *same* channels are used for The Wrekin Mux C and D.

With your aerial pointing to The Wrekin, it won't be getting a substantial signal anyway, and will be picking up substantial 'noise' from Cefn Mawr even though it does point in a different direction and use a different polarization.

If you want to use Cefn Mawr you will need to point your aerial to that transmitter, and use the correct vertical polarization. You will only get the Public Service multiplexes as Cefn Mawr is a 'Freeview Light' transmitter. The noise picked up from The Wrekin should be much lower relative to the signal from Cefn Mawr.

If you stick with The Wrekin, you should get a usable signal on ArqA and ArqB multiplexes when they change channel at the end of September. Remember to retune in a fortnight, and again two weeks after that, to get the PSB multiplexes.

The Cefn transmitter is a right pain here on Plas Madoc. I've spent a fortune on Aerials, Poles, Masthead, amps and Coax and then when everything is up and running at a reasonable and stable 53db signal from The Wrekin the Cefn transmitter messes up my EPG with channels I don't want or understand (NO offence intended)

I just hope when the juice goes up at The Wrekin its just that bit stronger than Cefn to drowns the signal out!
