Hi, just a very quick question from a newbie with a new aerial. Moved into our house, north side of Derby, and had a new aerial fitted a week ago. Signal is good on all channels apart from the Com7 / 8 HD ones. 4HD+1, BBC News HD, etc. They can be fine one minute and then totally drop. No signal at all. Between 15 seconds and two minutes later they are back on. This can happen every ten minutes or so, so it is frustrating. We are definitely receiving signal from the Waltham transmitter. Should we change to the Sutton Coldfield one? I realise local news may not be so local anymore and all of our other channels seem good. Shall we just lump it? Thanks in advance.

SalD: Please provide a full postcode so that we can see the predicted signal strength at your location (North Derby covers a wide area and doesn't give a result on the coverage checker).

SalD: Sutton Coldfield is predicted to be better at your location for the COM multiplexes. You may be able to pick up BBC East Midlands & ITV Central East regions from either Waltham or the Derby relay off the side of the aerial.

Have been having problems since 23rd of December, can't get BBC channels at all have done resets of the TV with no avail, its disappointing and disgusting that I can't get these channels, and it a makes me angry that I can't view them what's the point in paying for a tv license if I can't view the programmes tht I enjoy watching, this is a constant problem and needs sorting out, I'm sure tht im not the only one tht is constantly making complaints????

Laing :

Please provide a full post code so that we can check the expected reception at your particular location. There is no reported problem with the Waltham transmitter at this time. If there were, then thousand of complaints would have been posted.

Meanwhile, please carefully chaclk all your aerial cables and the connections. Unplug the coaxial plugs/sockets and refit them. Then check the signal strengths shown on your TV. DO NOT RETUNE. In fact, retuning as you have was the worst thing you could have done.

DAVID WEBSTER: Depending on your exact location you may be able to receive the SDL National DAB multiplex which contains several DAB+ stations (e.g. Fun Kids, Jazz FM, Union Jack and a few others). Your radio should find these by auto tuning if you are within the coverage area, or you can manually tune to VHF block 11A if your radio has a manual tuning function.

SaID.
You have little or no chance of receiving a stable Freeview signal from the Waltham transmitter at your location on Broadway / Penny Long Lane as the location is too low down in a dip relative to the location of the Waltham transmitter 38km to the east, roughly Darley Park direction). Conversely the direction of the Sutton Coldfield transmitter (roughly in the direction of the A38 South) is flatter territory and more open and will provide you with a better more stable signal.
Who ever installed your new aerial should have been well aware of the best direction to align it.
I would suggest you get them back to adjust the direction of the aerial to target the Sutton Coldfield transmitter, which incidentally pumps out four times the transmit power (eight times for some of the lower powered 25KW Multiplex's) compared to Waltham.
Good luck with your aerial adjustment.
