Poor reception in South Manchester is frequently caused by TV's locking on to the Haslingden transmitter after an auto tune. A manual retune, although tedious, solves this problem. The signal levels in South Manchester are so high that they are immune to atmospheric effects, high gain amplifiers, to distribute the signal, can cause overloading however.

It seems to be only C54 that I can no longer get, despite resets and re tunes or manual tune proceedure trying to force the transmitter it locks to.

Channel 54 carries the BBC HD services for which of course you need a Freeview HD receiver. If your signal levels are low, check the other channels on you TVs status page, it is possible that they will be the first to go. I assume you cannot see channels 31 and 37 either. I suspect you may have an aerial problem of some kind.

Wilma Dixon:
To be able to offer any advice we definitely need a full post code of where you live (or that of a very nearby post office or shop). Only then can we determine which transmitter you might be using and hence whether there are any known problems.
If you live in a building with a communal aerial, ask your neighbours whether they have the same problem - worth doing that even if you have your own aerial. If a communal and others have the same problem then contact the managing agents to get it put right. If your own aerial and neighbours are not getting the problem then you may have an equipment fault, so please tell us what equipment you use (make and model at least).

I live in CW30ET postcode. Aerial is above 10m, mounted externally and pointed directly at Winter Hill, 45 miles away. I have moved from one side of the house to the other while renovations are carried out (it really isn't that big, just the way it is laid out!).
Now I only get Moel y Parc (compass 300 deg) and very intermittently and not all channels (aerial still pointing at Winter Hill, compass 360). I had no problem on the other side of the house getting Winter Hill. Now I do not get Winter Hill at all.
I have tried the usual suspects, factory reset, manual retune. If was an installation problem, cable degradation or the like, surely I wouldn't get Moel either no matter how poor the signal currently is.
Anyone got some ideas?
