The symbol shows the location of the Winter Hill (Bolton, England) transmitter which serves 2,690,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Winter Hill (Bolton, England) mast?

Charles Carruthers: Check if the second TV has an HD tuner (model no. would be helpful). Talking Pictures (as has been pointed out again and again) needed an HD tuner to pick it up. So if you havn't got one, your not going to get them.

Also check they are tuned to the same transmitter. If both TV's have HD tuners, but one is tuned to a transmitter that doesn't carry those channels, then that could also explain it. Put your postcode into the site, and we can see if this could happen.

BTW - if one TV is fine without a booster, why is the other one connected to it?

GIM or G-MAN is running with empty or non-existent SI tables again.

The following xml table dumps were produced by the TransEdit TS Analyzer.

An empty NIT means no LCNs.

The NIT:

<Winter_Hill_762>
<NIT PID="0x0010" Name="Actual Network">
<NetworkID HValue="0x302A"/>
</NIT>
</Winter_Hill_762>

An empty SDT means no service names.

The SDT (no SDT Actual TS is present):

<Winter_Hill_762>
<SDT PID="0x0011" Name="Other TS">
<OriginalNetworkID HValue="0x233A">
<TransportStreamID HValue="0x1048"/>
</OriginalNetworkID>
</SDT>
</Winter_Hill_762>

There's more, and this has been going on for a year or so:

The PAT is changing every few seconds.

The PAT is essentially just a list of SIDs followed by PMT PIDs.

The PAT Version Number is incremented at each change.

Here are three successive PATs, appearing within a minute or so of each other:

Version Number 31 = (FF and 00111110)/2
00 B0 21 74 01 FF 00 00
00 00 E0 10

76 81 EB 11
77 81 E3 09
77 41 E0 25
76 41 EC B8
76 01 EF 7D

7D 80 E0 E7 /CRC

Version Number 0 = (C1 and 00111110)/2
00 B0 1D 74 01 C1 00 00
00 00 E0 10

76 81 EB 11
77 81 E3 09
76 41 EC B8
76 01 EF 7D

54 0C 4F 2B /CRC

Version Number 1 = (C3 and 00111110)/2
00 B0 21 74 01 C3 00 00
00 00 E0 10

76 81 EB 11
77 81 E3 09
77 41 E0 25
76 41 EC B8
76 01 EF 7D

71 82 9A 65 /CRC

The first and third PATs are identical apart from their version numbers.

In the second PAT, there are only four Programs.

The entry "77 41 E0 25" is missing.

Here is the data for GIM, read off the BBC A multiplex:

GIM
ONID.TSID = 233A.7401
762 MHz, uhf 57, 8 MHz, 16-QAM, 8k, 3/4, 1/32
Target Regions = (GBR.England.North West)U(GBR.Isle of Man)

090 7601 01 TV Warehouse
209 7681 01 POP+1
210 7741 01 Tiny Pop+1
)

As can be seen, "77 41" is Tiny Pop+1 with "00 25" its PMT PID.

Unsurprisingly, my LG telly finds no services on scanning this multiplex.

GIM or G-MAN has, it seems, been fixed, but the signal to noise ratio has dropped by about 10dB to 14dB.

My LG telly shows a signal of 8 percent and quality of 1 percent for GIM.

Even with such a poor signal, the LG managed to find seven services on GIM, which were initially put on 801 to 807.

A few seconds later, they were found on their correct LCNs.

The video off it is of course so corrupted as to be unwatchable.

091 'Now 80s' and 092 'Now XMAS' have been added to GIM, which now looks like this:

GIM
ONID.TSID = 233A.7401
762 MHz, uhf 57, 8 MHz, 16-QAM, 8k, 3/4, 1/32

I have a roof aerial (pointing to Winter Hill) but can currently only receive 2 mux's (PSB1 + COM5).
Early this year I could receive a lot more channels (mux's), but started losing channels over the last 2 months.
Any ideas?
- I've ruled out local interference as I have no nearby electrical equipment (VCR, Sky Box etc)

On Friday I noticed ChartShow and Clubland just suddenly go off and now I can't get them. They was no interference or anything. Have they been switched off? I tried retuning but it made no difference and I think my aerial is fine.

The transmitter is faulty and is operating at very low power, no doubt it will be repaired soon but it has been this way from at least Saturday morning. The fact that there have been only two comments about it on this site and none on Digital Spy shows how low its audience must be. There are no problems with any other of Winter Hill's services including the local multiplex carrying That's Manchester, just GIM on channel 57.

anthony: Read the top of the page - that transmitter covers about 2.7m homes. If your theory is correct and its faulty on very low power, then:

a) it would probably indicate that at the top of the page, especially if had been that way for 4 days.

b) A lot of people would notice. They havn't.

c) Would not all its muxes be low? You said that some are totally fine.

Instead, check your system - you've lost certain muxes, and almost certainly you have a lose connection or damaged cable. Considering how much advice you've given other people looking at your previous comments, its a bit surprising you'd hadn't thought of that.
