Martin: As geoff says, check that it is tuned to Whitehawk and not Rowridge.

If it is, then the simple workaround is to unplug the aerial for the first 40% of the scan. This will miss out low channels (frequencies) used by Rowridge, but will scan higher ones used by Whitehawk.

Martin: If you do find that it is tuned to Whitehawk, then I suggest that you get a 20dB variable attenuator.

For example (other outlets and sellers are available):

Peter berry: Which transmitter is your aerial directed to?

If it is the Saltdean relay then you will not receive ITV3 or any other Commercial channels from it because it doesn't broadcast them.

If it is Whitehawk Hill, then perhaps you are marginal. Do you get the other Commercial channels?

See this page and identify which of the COM multiplexes (if any) you get:

http://www.dmol.co.uk/mux….php

ITV3 is carried on COM4. So do you get COM5 (Pick TV) and COM6 (Yesterday)?

I have no freeview channels from white hawk, but a rescan picks up some 800, presumably from from Roridge, these are very weak and break up all th etiquette. Anyone else in BN1 area having the same problem?

Before the digital changeover I used to receive BBC South for my local news. Now I get BBC South East which is all about Kent. Its more than 40 miles to the Kent border from Hove. We have much more in common with Worthing, Chichester, Bognor etc that are all within 40 miles of Hove.

Why dont we get South Today and BBC South anymore ?

HoveActually: See for an explanation:

Brighton transmitters will be in BBC South East from 7th March 2012 | ukfree.tv - 10 years of independent, free digital TV advice

The change of Whitehawk's BBC region coincided with a change in the coverage area of the relevant news programmes (in theory).

I have Windows 7 Media Centre, which periodically re-tunes and picks up multiple BBC channel, particularly BBC2, 3 and 4.
I live in Central Brighton and the aerial is directed toward Whitehawk Hill.
I assume it's picking up other transmitters, so was wondering f there's anyway to stop this permanently, as Media Centre will keep re-scanning in background. I saw mention of an attenuator, whcih I assume reduces signal strength?

Cheers.

Simon: Can you stop the periodic retunes?

If so, you could try the trick mentioned before here, namely unplugging the aerial for the first half of the channel scan (i.e. the first half of the frequencies scanned). At about 50% plug the aerial in again and cross your fingers.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Thanks Jim,

I'll have a bash at that.

Now that I think I've identified the preferred Whitehawk channels I might be able to disable the others.

Cheers.
