Jonty58: Have a look at the links next to your third post, it will have the info you need (if you give the site your postcode, it bring up everything automatically).

If your tuned into Nottingham, your just 17km from the transmitter - and since you point out that the strength is excellent, but the quality is not, it could be this: Freeview signals: too much of a good thing is bad for you

I know I constantly reckon is too hign a signal, but it semms to fit the facts.

Jonty58: Your signal strength might be fluctuating, so although its Ok at the moment, if it is too high a signal, then it will proably reoccur. Check your signal strength if it does, and if its very high, follow the advice on thew linked webpage.

There are works at Ridge Hill so I suggest that you do nothing until these are complete.

For the past 2 weeks TV reception has been extremely poor and I can now only receive 9 channels of very indifferent quality. The TV aerial has been dismantled, checked and reinstalled. Also, the signal amplifier has been replaced and all TV's retuned but to no avail.

Currently no BBC coverage + many more. What is the solution?

Kind regards.

Keith Blackham: you havn't included a postcode, so we have no idea of your location, and thus the sort of signal you should get. However, the transmitter seems fine, so its almost certainly your system.

You've had the Tv aerial dismantled and reinstalled. Did this include all the cabling? A poor signal is normally down to a broken or frayed connection, corrosion, moisture, etc. You've had the booster replaced, so that not it. Did you check the fly lead from the socket to the TV? A classic is the cable coming loose or falling out, or perhaps just being faulty.

And the other thing to check is are you actually tuned to the transmitter you think you are? Plenty of people will naturally try to trtune when they get a poor signal. Of course that retuning might mean they lose the original transmitter, and end up with one far more distant, but with a lower channel no., which means it gets picked up first. Check with the transmitter details that BBC1 etc is actually on Channel 28, etc. If its not, your tuned into the wrong station, hence your problem, even though the original fault might have been fixed.

BTW - paying your licence fee doesn't guarantee you can get decent reception, thats down to geography, physics and equipment.

Further to previous, I reside at B61 9LW and the internal cables are 2- 3 years old together with the aerial. Up to 2 weeks ago all was fine the a full range of channels available.

As you willl note I am not the only complainant in the locality.

Your urgent assistance would be appreciated.

Kind regards

Keith Blackham
