I live in The Morriston area of Swansea and get my signal from the Kilvey Hill transmitter. Will I ever be able to receive BBC4 in HD. I find it very frustrating that I can only get a standard signal on one of my favourite channels. I would love to see the Christmas lectures in HD. I cannot receive a signal from any other signal as far as I know.

John Preece: Unfortunately Kilvey Hill is not listed as one of the stations in line for providing an extended HD service, a few test p/codes from around the Morriston area entered into the terrain indicator revealing large multiple line of sight obstructions between the Wenvoe transmitter and the location covered by all of the test codes, this reflected by that seen on the reception predictor using the aforementioned test codes.
The only way full programme channel coverage can be obtained is via Freesat.

Why can't I get ITV3 (Channel 10) on my Freeview tv. I live in the CF46 area (Nelson)

Thomas: There are 11 relay (PSB only) transmitters dotted around the CF46 postal code area and one main full service transmitter, namely Wenvoe.
As relays do not transmit commercial programmes such as ITV3 whereas the main station of Wenvoe does on COM4 Mux C42, its really a case of whether or not you reside in an area with a chance of picking up Wenvoe, a post code being required for checking.

Why are some programmes and adverts showing with black horizontal bars top and bottom of the screen. This has only been happening recently. It is the same on each TV in the house.

Alison Day: Check which channels and programmes. If you have a widescreen TV, then you'll get black bars top and bottom for a modern widescreen film - the film wouldn't fit the screen otherwise. If you watch something made in the 1970's (like Dads Army), you'll get bars at each side, for much the same reason. Most Tv's do this automatically, but some boxes/channels/TV's can be a bit random.

My Post Code is CF32 9LF. Although with the digital changeover we have been able to receive all of the Freeview channels from the Wenvoe Transmitter as we had a new aerial and signal booster installed, (we previously had our TV signal from the Llangeinor Transmitter), we are not able to get the newly added Talking Pictures TV channel that is meant to be available now on Freeview from Wenvoe. Have you any idea why this might be the case?
I have completed the " If you have Freeview reception problems before posting a question you must first do this" requirements as set out above but to no avail. My digital aerial is sited on our chimney on top of the roof.

Alan Smith: I think that Talking Pictures needs a DVB-T2 tuner to get it. If you've just got Freeview, then your going to need to upgrade. I know its on my HD box, but not the TV itself.

I live in Cwmbran, Wales but my freeview tv is getting the west regional news (bbc one west etc) instead of the welsh versions. I tried the manual retune instructions on here Digital UK - Coverage checker - Results for 18 Dean Court, Henllys, Cwmbran, NP44 6EN but when I type in the channel numbers, the signal level bar goes blank and next to signal quality it says 'none'.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jonathan W: Your problem is basically down to the Mendip transmitter (@ 33 mls /146 degrees) being the station indicated as providing a superior signal to your area over that from your preferred station, namely Wenvoe (@ 15 mls / 219 degrees). The signal from the latter being inferior because of the signal path from same suffering from three line-of-sight obstructions starting from approximately 4 miles out prior to your aerial, L.O.S obstructions having a far greater effect on reception the nearer they are located to the receiver.
A google rooftop check of your area shows aerials pointing in a number of directions, even one mounted to receive vertically polarised transmissions, possibly from Pontypool (@ 2 mls / 352 degrees), albeit that DUK does not indicate this station as being receivable at your location, its BBC being on C23 - ITV C26.
But though the whole issue depends on which transmitter your aerial is facing towards, because should it be Mendip?, then its most unlikely that anything would be indicated on a manual tune of Wenvoe's BBC (C41) or ITV (C44), as the aerial would be positioned not that terribly far away from its dead spot for reception, that of 90 degrees from the signal.
