Richard Cooper, that area is in a deep dip and surrounded by trees, of the 3 transmitters, Emley Moor, Waltham, Sutton Coldfield, it is Waltham with the weakest output, it doesnt quite reach? But i have had trouble elsewhere with BBC mux from there also (to strong?) Emley Moor is the only option and has been generally ok for years

FAO :Ian from Pinxton. Thank you for explaining the reason for Emley being your only option due to geographical topography and tree foliage. When you said a 25 mast amp, I wonder if you meant a 26-decibel mast-head amplifier, as this is the spec I installed for my father in East Suffolk, where he, too, was experiencing reception difficulties. I must say that I would be very disappointed if I were unable to watch the news for my own region from the BBC and from itv, so I am assuming you receive your regional news by studying it online or by making use of regional press? Richard again in Norwich.

Ian from Pinxton:
One possible alternative that would give you your local; news, etc is to use a satellite system. Knowing the area from when I worked in the East Midland I would expect you should be able to get good satellite reception with a Zone 2 dish, a zone 1 dish would be 'iffy' in rain and snow.
If you put your full post code into this site, you will see 6 small blue boxes which show reception information for your location. That may help identify some causes of the problems.

Cheers for the comments lads, to many tall trees to close for a sat dish. The mast amp is equivalent to a fringe 12/25. Local news is not generly the problem as lots of this area di not receive Waltham anyway, just a picture will do, the thing is everything has been ok for a long time then the same problem at different locations locally , seemed to many for coincidence n wondered if there had been changes at transmitter

There are no known problems with the Emley Moor transmitter. As it is a major transmitter serving several million people there would have been an outcry if there was an unrepaired fault.
It is more likely that the trees around you are a possible cause.
In my long experience of satellite installation, it is very, very rare to not be able to install a dish in a suitable location.

I have a problem with Emley Moor this lunch time.
Was asked to do a retune and now BBC TV stations are not there.
Will try it again later, are any problems known?

According to the top of the page, its seems to have no problems, so unless the people in your street also have a problem and the info is wrong, its your system. Dont retune - you'll just lose the signal you've got stored. Best suggestion - you've tuned into the wrong transmitter, with a signal too weak for the TV to pick up.

Emley Moor PDC signals. WF2 6JF
Beginning this week, there seem to be 2 PDC programme start signals being transmitted on the HD (so far, BBC1, BBC2, BBC4, ITV) channels. Last night seemed to be the worst - my PVR recorded 2 instances of Have I Got News For You, Later and The Story of Skinhead. There is a gap of between 4 - 15 seconds between the first and second instances, apart from Later, which had a gap of 22 minutes. This is not exclusive to 1 PVR. I set up another thinking that there was a problem with my original one and exactly the same happened. It has also been happening on a friend's PVR. I haven't yet had a chance to test the non-HD channels yet, but will do later.
Is there anyone on this forum with access to the technical aspects of the transmissions who could try and find out what is happening? As I said, it seems to have started this week.

Hi all,
I posted yesterday about problems I've been having with my PVR (it's a Digitalstream DHR 8205) this week. 2 of my friends have started having exactly the same problems at the same time, and looking on the AVforums thread for these PVRs, a whole host of other people have just started having the same problems. I believe that something has changed recently in the programme transmissions that is somehow corrupting the firmware in these boxes. Does anyone know how to get in touch with someone from Freeview who could help?
