colin lister: Check signal strength - could be too high. But if too low, check those cables again.

Has anybody had this problem. On BBC RB1 the picture has a transparent overlay on top of the snooker match which contains lines of computer code, which are readable. I can get rid of it by turning off DATA services, when I do this this DATA "D" icon is no longer visible on the information banner. My TV is a Panasonic TX-40AS640E and I'm at YO12 7JU (Olivers Mount). I would insert a picture but it won't paste in to this message. I sent a message to the BBC a couple of days ago but haven't received a reply yet.

In postcode area YO13 covered by the Olivers Mount transmitter there have been frequent and prolonged losses of signal on most tv channels, particularly BBC, and most radio channels, particularly BBC within the past month. Is this likely to continue and are there any ways of boosting the signal? Signal losses can be for less than one minute or can take the form of pixilation on screen or, as has been occurring on an almost daily basis, can last several hours.

Tony Turner: If this was being caused by a transmitter fault there would be hundreds of people complaining. Have you checked for any loose or damaged cables or connections behind your TV? It sounds more like you are suffering from bursts of interference or a bad connection somewhere.

T C Jones: There is no one from the transmitter company on this website, but it is unlikely to be anything to do with the transmitter. If it is happening at the same time every day then it's quite likely to be electronic interference from something in your home (or a near neighbour) operating on a timer, quite likely something with an electric motor.
