Allen Cousens:

Further to that said by StevensOnln1, an indoor 'set top' aerial of the type you describe were always dubious for reception and often very unreliable, especially as you moved around the room or anyone next door moved around nearby. Traffic often caused serious disruptions as well. So 'set top' type aerials are not a good answer at all. It is better to do as StevensOnln1 suggests and have a wide band aerial fitted free-of-charge if you qualify (no cable TV service and no satellite system).

I live in NW9 5LQ since the recent change I lost channels on COM7 and COM8. We share a communal area on the estate. The property management company arranged for a local engineer to come and check everything. He came back to the property and said they were all there now and retuned my television - to no avail. I had 158 channels before and after. Last night, I tried, what he didn't do, retune without the aerial and then retune with the aerial. That gave me 161 channels, but I notice missing was BBC News HD. This morning I tried the same process again, and ended up with 151 channels - duh ! (Tried this twice). No idea what is missing, but waiting for the engineer to report back to the property management company and will take it from there.

Mike P: Thanks for your comments. I will get in touch with the Management company to see what is happening. I don't know if he changed the aerial system. He certainly checked in my property and was surprised that I couldn't receive the signal.

My recorder does receive the stations, but it has never been able to receive a satisfactory HD signal, the picture just breaks up in 'Joseph's Multicoloured Dreamcoat' !

Is this page still up-to-date? I'm trying to retune after losing channels and I'm not receiving anything on channels 33 & 35.

can someone explain the following problem.i use a panasonic blue ray recorder which has a full hd tv tuner in it.this worked perfectly ok up to the time of the retune, now i am unable to get any channels between 106-201.i have tried various ways of retuning without success.the signal strength shown on the lower channels is a full ten out of ten.i have seperate cheap free view box connected to the same aerial via multiple booster box.this picks up all the channels ok . the panasonic unit is not under warranty.i also have a new sony tv model 43xd80, this is also playing up ,some times i cannot 4hd on it.the other night i was watching bbc 4hd when i lost the channel completely.i tried it again later and it was back.i never had any of these problems before the retune.someone said i should get the aerial checked because it has been up on the chimney stack for about 12 years.any advice any one can give me would be most helpful.many thanks.a m page

We have had issues keeping channels. Currently the only channels available are HD channels only any ideas the aerial is about 6 weeks old. Every time it is adjusted channels go. We originally had over 100 now only 7 which are HD.
Any ideas please.

Anthony Page:

As has been said repeatedly here, you need a wideband aerial now. If you do not already have one, you need to get one fitted, talk to the Freeview Assistance on 0808 100 0288. You also need to check that all the aerial connections are good and free from any corrosion on the contacts within the plug/socket.

Simon Brice:

Check all the connections between the aerial and TV. Also check that the signal b eing received is not too strong, it must not be greater that 85% as most tuners cannot tolerate anything more. Search for 'too much of a good thing' on this website for some suggestions.
