Chrispy: I'm not sure why you think that postcode you provided is a poor reception area, it is listed as having "excellent" reception, as long as you are using a rooftop aerial.

I have recently moved into a newly built area opposite to TESCOs, off Millstrood Road, whitstable (CT5 3FF). I have a high gain aerial pointed at BluiBell. The aerial is outside the house and two storey high.

I have 14% strenght and 40% quality. I don't always get BBC1,2,CBBC and BBC news.

What else can I do to get these channels always and to improve the strength of all channels?

Matthew: The post code given indicates Rouncefall (@ 23mls) as being by far the best station for reception, Bluebell Hill (@ 22mls) most definitely not! That said though, predictors cannot fully cater for local circumstances that could cause problems with reception, so that might be a factor with your aerial being pointed at Bluebell Hill.

Although Bluebell Hill is at 262 degrees from you whereas Rouncefall is at 316, purely for a test I would scrub what's stored in the memory by carrying out a re-scan without the aerial being connected, then after reconnecting try manually tuning Rouncefall on Mux Ch44(BBC1) - Mux Ch41(ITV1) - Mux Ch47 (HD service) storing anything received after each scan.

The only downside of Rouncefall being that its a Freeview "Light" station, meaning only public services are broadcast.

Bluebell Hill, Analogue BBC1 and Digital BBC1 both switched to broadcast the BBC News channel between 1.37pm and 1.45pm BST today October 6. Instead of South East News, some boring press conferecne from the European Central Bank. As soon as the national programmes resuled at 1.45pm the problem was fixed.
Any clues as to what migth have happened?

John Buchanan: The News Channel is the "sustaining feed", which means it will be broadcast if the correct programme cannot be provided because of a technical failing in the regional studio.

Today MUX 2 & MUX A have both gone to either Low Signal or No Signal on the TV, even the Analogue reception for channels 3 & 4 are very poor today. Does this point to atmospheric interference rather than a problem at the transmitter.
I called DigitalUK for info & the suggestion was to realign my aerial to Sudbury, Essex, I'll pass on that one. Bluebell is only 14 miles away.

As per my earlier post, MUX's 2 & A are back up now, 5pm. Off for 4 hours due to atmospherics, very strange!
