Hi, seem to be suffering a similar problem to that descibed by Terry J Russell. I'm at SG12 0XY and my freeview HD signal (CH30, 545.841 MHz) keeps dropping, causing no signal to be displayed on my TV. This happens on a Sony 32EX403, I can watch the signal quality bar drop from 100% to 0, bounce around 30 and then back to 100% when the picture comes back. The strength sits at 100% all the time. I have no issues with SD reception.

I also have Freeview HD PVR, which does not seem to be as sensitive, but I do get some breakup. Not sure if this is interference, or the TC itself.

Luke Bellamy.Ware,SG12 0XY.
Your second and last paragraph at least could be down to atmospherics/inversion effect due to the recent brief settled spell due to end very soon.
As for your first paragraph if you do receive transmissions directly from Crystal Palace itself is your aerial horizontally polarised and if so is it a group A type Yagi or group A type X-Beam aerial as such (red coloured tips). One possibility could be that BBCB (HD) multiplex generally are more prone to picture pixellations, break ups and No Signal mode than the present five remaining SD multiplexes.

This evening (29 June) after about 22.30 the signal strength on Ch 25 (10 ITV 3, 27 ITV 2 +1, 30 5*, 31 5USA, 38 Quest, 39 The Zone, 44 Channel 5 +1, 72 CITV, 16 QVC, 23 Bid TV, 60) declined and the picture became unuseable. Crystal Palace report "no problems". Is this interference from an outside source on just one channel or something else?

Richard: I imagine that it is likely to be the lift conditions. See the page on the inversion effect.

What is the best sort of indoor aerial to use to get freeview channels in Leatherhead? We have just moved inmto a new flat in the town and only have a Virgin cable connection. Would prefer not to have to subscribe to Virgin unless absolutely necessary but unable to put up an external aerial.

The same problem as last night has happened again. At about 9.30 pm the signal began to break up on Ch 25 Mux SDN. It recovered about 20 mins later. Crystal Palace report no problems. Has anyone else experienced the same effect?

Richard: The prediction for reliable reception of C25 from Crystal Palace at your location is not brilliant - officially it is classed as poor. This is due to the risk of interference from Rowridge which shares the same frequency. A check on the William Hepburn's Tropospheric ducting forecast shows slight ducting between London and the South coast for late evening so this could be the explanation for your wobbly signal on SDN. The other possible explanation would be interference from a faulty street lamp which would have switched on about the time in question. It might be of interest, if you continue to have problems with reception from Crystal Palace, that Hannington is predicted to give good reception of the COM muxes at your location.

John Quattromini.Unfortunately nowadays indoor set-top aerials have become much inferior than what they used to be it's difficult for me to specify which is the best. But if you look up the ATV Aerials and Television of Sheffield website they do retail superior quality indoor set-top aerials and they do provide a mail order service too.

Michael.A full postcode preferably is required to ascertain the reception possibilities in your location.
One indicator to your predicament if you are using Crystal Palace main mast is the Transmitter Engineering text immediately above your text dated Monday 2 July 2012,10.28am.
