Hi I bought a new Tv with Freeview HD last week, perfect, for a few days, yesterday it started to break up on all HD channels only, now it says NO SIGNAL, only on the HD channels.

I tried retuning, but none of the HD channels are found.

I am confused and upset after spending all that money on a new TV.

I am on the Crystal Palace transmitter, living in NW London.

Why was everything fine for 3 days? I changed nothing!
Please advise ASAP

Apologies to FJC Farrar for not answering your query of 5th March sooner. The reason for using Crystal Palace is that we have always had London programmes since moving into the house more than twenty years ago, and have tended to prefer them over BBC South/Meridian. I don't want the expense of having the aerial realigned at this stage.
We are geographically in an area that sits west of London, south of what used to be Midlands and north of South (if you get my meaning). On BBC digital text news it is not unusual to see stories from all areas in BBC South and London coverage.
As far as signal strength is concerned we have always been able to receive analogue and digital channels without a problem until the end of this February. We actually receive more channels than the Digital UK or Freeview predictor suggests.
Which brings me to a new gripe - when I started using this site you were "assigned" a transmitter and region based on postcode, but you could change it to the transmitter you actually pick up. Now it seems I am automatically "forced" in a link to Hannington when I come into the site, and there seems no way to change it!
Further to my ongoing reception issues. I went back to Digital UK and asked them to reconsider their response as they had ignored that I said I was getting London programmes - again they had just looked at the postcode checker and came up with Hannington. Again they everything was "normal" with Crystal Palace but at least they offered more advice (most of which I had tried previously without success). I am now going to go back to the BBC with my case number and report that what they had suggested had not helped, and ask why they are not taking my complaint more seriously (I will restrict my channel problems to BBC as they say they are only responsible for those). Given that they are supposed to be acting for Ofcom, they don't seem to be making a good job of it at present.
I agree that this would be easier to bear if the expectation had been set that things would get worse before they get better!

Thanks for this uniquely informative site - it's a great public service.

Regarding changes to analogue channels during Crystal Palace (CP) switchover:

It states on this page above that "ITV-1 analogue swaps to C33. BBC TWO analogue C23 closes."

But BBC2 analogue is currently (11/3/12) on C33 (not C23) - a typo? Did you mean that ITV1 analogue moves from C23 to C33, replacing BBC2, which will close?

Your coverage predictor does not show ITV1 analogue on ANY channel from CP between 4/4/12-18/4/12. (Example using a random central London postcode: Find out how to receive Freeview and Freeview HD at WC1E7HT | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice Is this an omission, or will there be just TWO analogue channels (BBC1 & Ch4) during the CP switchover period (contrary to above)?

Thanks! (EN40AX)

Hi can you tell me whether or not purchasing a tv with freeview will benefit me at all. I have a tv in the lounge with a sky+ plus, I also have a tv in the bedroom without freeview, but at the moment can watch 1-5 and also by putting the tv on channel 6 can watch sky from the lounge via a magic eye.
Could you tell me that if i purchased a tv with freeview built in would i still be able to put the tv on a seperate channel to watch sky through my magic eye as before, and also watch freeview when I dont want to watch sky.
If so what channel or source would i need to put my sky on to watch it through the eye, without interferring with the freeview.

Wendy: You will need to ensure that the TV you buy has an analogue tuner in. That is the "old" system.

In order to watch your Sky box you will have to select the analogue part of your new TV.

As the five analogue channels you have at the moment are on Freeview, you may just not bother tuning them in on the analogue part of your new TV. If you put your Sky box on analogue number 1 (instead of BBC One analogue), you will just need to press the button that switches to analogue in order to watch Sky.

If you want help, let us know the model number that you intend to buy and we should hopefully be able to find the specification to see if it will work with your Sky box.
