The trouble with digital is unlike the old transmission method it's all 1s and 0s with no buffering so anything that is not regulated by the fcc is going to cause a disturbance like the moped's that drive up and down my road that is HT voltage especialy when they take the resistors out of the plug caps to get a stronger spark anyway even an electric motor can cause a disturbance eg a drill a flu extractor fan on your boiler anything that is not regulated by our friends at the fcc the trick is the chances are your ariel is fine it's the instalation that is most likley at fault this can be rectified by reducing the airel cable length if possible,never use a booster at the tv end all this does is amplify a possibly weak signal and interferience use a booster as close to the airel as possible also low loss screened coax is very recommended.Distance = resistance which = attenuation and for a low signal and believe me it is low otherwise the nice men at the fcc would shut it down due to the health risk at those at close proximity. In short most of us can dramaticly improve our quality of reception at very little or NO cost. But if you are one of the unlucky ones who are far from your local repeater then get a high gain airel and follow the instructions above i hope this is helpfull and in my opinion keep it analog i could deal with a bit of fuzz and the occisional ghost image on the screen but when my tv starts talking like a robot i get the ump.

Hi all
Quick question. Regarding the switch over of the crystal palace transmitter. Currently my digital reception is a bit iffy, which i've been fully expecting in the run up to the april switch over, as several channels such as Five US etc where received ok, most of the time, but now don't show and even ITV2 is in and out.
Whilst I must wait patiently for the switch to occur i do have 1 question. What is it that is actually changing with the transmitter??
Is the current digital signal just going to be turned on and left on, or is the power of the signal going to be ramped up and be more powerful and provide more channels??
I.e. I've never been able to receive BBC HD. Will this be viewable following the switch over? I'm wondering, as I've on the fringe of the crystal palace reception

Aeriel is 2 years old and on the roof, but we have lost all itv signals,over the last 2 days. BBc channels are fine, please can you explain what is wrong.

Matt: The current analogue and 20kw digital transmitters at Crystal Palace will be replaced with brand new 200kW digital transmitters. Mux BBCA enters service on 4th April 2012 with all the standard definition BBC tv and BBC national radio services. The remaining high power digital transmitters enter service on 18th April 2012. From this date you are predicted to have good reception on all muxes and excellent reception on the HD services!

Tuesday 13/03 and Wed 14/03, all freeview channels working fine until approx 20:00, then most channels lost, first pixelated then no signal at all, later main BBC channels returned but others still lost.No equipment change over the last 18 months when new television and external digital aerial was purchased. signal comes from Crystal palace, is anybody else in stevenage having these problems? As I type we have now lost all bbc channels again.

KMJ,derby explains it well anyway a little tip which i keep doing is keep retuning it works for me and i cant wait for the 200kw ill be able to get a good signal with a wire coat hanger lol
oh and i dont know why the signal keeps going iffy atm it's gotta be somthing to do with the changeover process but i dont think we will ever know

Like Norman in Stevenage, I have also lost most Freeview channels from the Crystal Palace transmitter this evening (first pixellated, then completely lost). After retuning my STB, I seemed to have channels on MUX B, C and D, but nothing on 1, 2 or A. My Freeview reception has never been great, but I've never had any problems with BBC1 & 2 before. Having just retuned for a third time, I now seem to have MUX 1 back again, but still nothing on MUX 2 or A. Can this really be an atmospheric thing, or is it some precursor to next month's changeover? Hopefully the former, rather than another month of such flaky-ness!
