john: Re: YouView and the Huawei box, many thanks for the feedback requested on this device and which as far as I can gather somewhat confirms that you are indeed up to date with the software, albeit that said software is possibly defective hence the widespread tuning problem that these boxes suffer from, TalkTalk having the problem listed as "on going".

In the centre of York (YO31), using the Emley transmitter to receive freeview BBC Yorkshire region. Rooftop aerial, connected via a signal booster to a nearly new LCD TV. All channels have worked fine until 21st August when everything in the BBCA multiplex has stopped working - intially glitchy now very glitchy/no signal at all. All other channels are fine and the BBCA multiplex from Bilsdon (BBC North East) is OK too. Have got short shrift when lodging enquiries/complaints with the BBC and the at800 people (I received a postcard from them at about the same time warning of possible 4G interference). Any ideas please? Worth getting a 4G filter myself anyway? Any coincidence with BT Sport channels being added?

Sheffield Crystal Peaks area - have had loss of freeview signals for over 2 weeks now. Virtually all channels are blocky and audio keeps cutting out like Norman Collier. Really fed up now. at800 state there is no 4G activity in this area.
I noticed that when I retune my freeview box I no longer get channels duplicated which I used to get. e.g formerly I would get BBC One on channel 45ish and another on channel 26ish and I would painstakingly delete the weaker of the 2 stations for just about every channel. Now when I retune I no longer get this duplication. It's as if one signal source has been switched off and left us with the weaker of the 2 sources. What is going on?

Ace: Purely out of curiosity what type of aerial arrangement are you using? as Emley Moor is indicated as the transmitter that covers the Crystal Peaks area area and with its BBC mux being on Ch 47 and ITV1 on Ch44.

The reason I ask is due to the fact that what you have reported can indicate that you have either an aerial or alternatively jumper lead to the TV problem, because if you did then this would account for you no longer having duplicate channels as your TV or box would only be able to receive the strongest signals albeit in a variable fashion.

Hi
My post code is BD13 3BT and my house number is 31. The aerial is a communal aerial and is sited on the side of one of the houses, not on the roof. An engineer from the housing association called, but reception was good on that day so all he could suggest was that my house is on the end run of the aerial cable! No help!

I have a Humax pvr 9300t. The signal strength on all muxes is about 70 to 75% and the signal quality about 90 to 100% However, on channel 51 (Emley Moor) the signal quality occasionally fluctuates rapidly between 10% and 100%. This can last for several hours and then the following day it is perfect again and can remain that way for weeks.

The fact that it can be perfect for weeks obviously rules out washing machine, freezer etc and having the boiler on or off makes no difference. Also my mobile phone and cordless phone are always in the same place so it cannot be that either.

I am stuck!
Thank you
Norma

Norma Roberts: Your signal quality is exactly where is it should be, apart from Channel 51, and then only on occassions. If you look at the terrain plot, there is something big blocking the signal path about 0.5km from you (Hanging Fall Wood?), and I suspect thats where the problem lies - perhaps when its wet, or misty - the reception for that group gets a bit dodgy. A higher aerial would be better, but there you are.

I'me sure one of the reception experts can suggest more detailed reasons, but obviously, since your getting perfect reception on everything else, a booster, etc might make your other channels worse, rather than better. However, borrow one of those boosters which just sits between the socket and the TV/Humax (most people dont actually need them, so there might be one spare), and see if it helps. However. since boosting the signal might make it too strong, its more an experiement than a solution.

Perhaps JB38 or Dave Lindsay can be more help?

Mike: The extra HD muxes are not expected to commence service from Emley Moor until July 2014, according to the current timetable. This date could change, according to the weather conditions when work is planned and progress at other sites which are due to be completed in the earlier part of 2014.
