Your site currently states that there is no work on the Fenham transmitter, but on another site there are reported problems breaks in service & engineering works. All our free view channels are breaking up , but not our internet channels. Who is correct. I have tried all cables, switched off the box etc but still unwatchable & signal weak message. Please help p.s. Weather is fine not windy or stormy.

Deborah : Which website are you seeing these reports on? The transmitter engineering posts on this site are taken from a feed provided by BBC engineering. What signal strength and quality readings are you seeing?

ANDY KUIPERS: Your only 6km away from the Fenham transmitter so start by checking behind your TV for any loose/damaged cables or connections. Although further away, Pontop Pike is also predicted to give a good signal at your location so it would be worth checking which you are using and that your TV is tuned to the correct transmitter. For Fenham, your aerial will be pointing roughly south with the little rods in the vertical position (pointing up and down) whereas for Pontop Pike it will be pointing more to the west of south with the little rods horizontal (pointing side to side).

I'm having problem with my Panasonic PVRs (I have three). Certain channels won't record or pause, specifically on HD, 106-113, 115 and 205. Looking at your transmitter info for Fenham, Mux Com 7 looked to be the culprit, so I tested some of the SD channels, and had the same problem. On trying to pause live TV I get a message saying "No signal for operation". On trying to record, the recording never starts. This has been going on for a few weeks now. As far as I am aware, other channels not on Mux Com 7 are all fine.

On advice from Panasonic, I did a "dry" retune. It made no difference. I've lost count of how many times I've reset the unit. My postcode is NE82EE if needed.

Any suggestions what I should do about this?

Paul McDonnell: Have you checked the strength/quality of the various muxes?

The machine is telling you that its not getting enough of a signal, so you need to check if you are getting the correct transmitter. My old Sony PVR, which had, like Panasonics, a pretty sensitive tuner, would bring in other transmitters just enough to fool the PVR, but not enough to actually record anything.

If its locked into another transmitter, you can kill the signal a bit. or retune if it s just a one off.

The second possibility is that the transmitter is spot on, but your system is not. If your losing muxes, thats a classic sign of a system problem, perhaps via lose connections, dodgy cable, etc.

Since you have 3 Panasonics (I assume the 7/8 series), it sounds like the latter problem - so I'd start looking at the point where the signal splits.

Jim Robson:

Fenham deos transmitter all the possible multioplexes, including the COM7 and COM8 services which carry several HD channels. Check that you are actually tuned to the Fenham transmitter by putting your posy code and house number into the Digitla UK Coverage Checker at http://www.digitaluk.co.u…er/, selecting the Dey=tailed View option and pressing Go. Then scroll down to the listing for the Fenham transmitter, that will show you the current channel numbers to use for checking.
