If you look at the predicted reception for your postcode at Digital UK - Coverage checker and then hover your mouse over each UHF channel number, it will provide details.

Preece J: There is a trade-off between available capacity and the amount of error correction.

The more error correction there is, the easier it is to get the multiplex without error, but at the cost of available capacity.

The PSBs, BBCA and D3&4, have 1/3 of the transmitted data devoted to error correction, leaving 2/3 for actual services.

The COMs ARQA, ARQB and SDN have 1/4 of the transmitted data devoted to error correction, leaving 3/4 for actual services.

So, for example, BBCA has an available capacity of 24 Mbps (Mega bits per second) while SDN has 27 Mbps.

Spanner + works : you get my drift... The prediction sites are not infallible. They cannot include very local factors, such as buildings, hills, estuaries etc. What they tell me I should receive, I don't, or unsatisfactorily. What they don't list is what I receive :-) Noting down postcodes further away and inserting them into the prediction boxes can result in interesting alternative predictions - and channels worth trying. Where more than one transmitter is in range, auto-tuning can be tortuous. Manual tuning is preferable, but in many receivers well hidden and not user-friendly. Conspiration theorists claim NASA didn't land on the moon; others claim the inimical DTT system intends to prepare us for TV by subscription via 5G. Must all be rubbish, surely???

Kathryn: It is being reported elsewhere that due to a technical fault, BBC One is unable to broadcast Wales Today. They seem to have decided to replace it with Newsline from BBC One Northern Ireland, rather than the red screen or BBC News channel. This is not a transmitter or equipment fault, do not attempt to retune.

hello we have had irregular signal since the retune dates in july. sometimes the bbc channels work. othertimes they are scrambled. beginning to wonder if it is ever going to be back to the way it was. did speak to someone previously about this they said at the time the transmitter was at fault and to wait postcode is sa8 3jh. wigfafarm house. thanks

Hmm. Putting your postcode into the DigitakUK checker About us | Freeview shows that predicted reception from Kilvey Hill at your location is likely to be variable to poor! (Try it yourself).
Are you able to receive the COMs 4/5 & 6 multiplexes from Kilvey Hill, or could you get them before the retune event?
See Channel listings | Freeview for the channels on those multiplexes if you aren't sure.

The strange thing is that you are 2km from the Pontardawe transmitter which is line-of-sight but there's no predicted coverage from it according to DigitalUK !! But it's not radiating much signal in your direction, and it was off-air briefly this morning.

I'm wondering if when you retuned, you ended up tuned to the wrong UHF channels which won't help.

You need to enter your TV's tuning section and see which UHF channels you are actually tuned to.
For Kilvey Hill it's 21, 24, 27, for the PSB1/BBCA, PSB2/D3&4, PSB3/BBCB HD multiplexes and 25, 22, & 28 for the COMs 4,5 & 6 multiplexes.
For Pontardawe its 33, 36, 48 only as it doesn't have the COM muxes.
(Note aerial rods should be vertical for these two transmitters).

Kilvey Hill will give you the best choice for the Welsh region IF you can get the COM muxes. Otherwise predicted reception from Carmel is better (for the Welsh region) for the 3 PSB muxes (although the aerial rods need to be horizontal). You probably wouldn't get the COMs from Carmel because of interference from Pontardawe which uses the same UHF channels !!
It may pay you to get someone who is very familiar with reception in your area to look at you aerial installation to see which transmitter may give you the most stable reception.

Otherwise the other possible option is to consider going Freesat - a lot of modern TVs have built-in Sat tuners so you only need a Dish and LNB.

I am using a aerial for signal to my dtv , I have tried to retune my tv but am getting a no signal from my uhf antenna , individual aerials are working on all my others TVs ?

Could you please be a bit more precise about your installation? I'm getting the impression that you have several TVs with each TV having its own aerial. On the other hand you may have one aerial with a splitter (maybe combined with a booster) giving a separate output for each TV.

Does another TV work OK plugged in the place of the TV you are having problems with?
Does the TV you are having problems with work in one of the other places where another TV works?
