The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Hi Paul
Are you sure when you re tuned that you only tuned Mendip and not got another transmitter, worth checking again.
The reason why I say this is because the only few calls which I can count on one hand after the last change over was the norm ie: customer goes to autotune and picks up bathamton which is ch22 upwards and so forth.
The problem that causes is when in auto tune it will log the first bbc1 etc that it finds, and anyone on mendip gets the last look in so to speak ch48-67.
So worth double checking that one because the mendip transmitter at the moment is better than its ever been even far as signal strength and stability.
Regards

Hi,

Yep the tv is definetly tuned to mendip, my tv can display the actual frequency (mhz) of the channel being viewed and they do match the frequencys for mendip.

Am able to recieve com 5 & 6 again tonight, seems at the moment that it's un-watchable during the day but ok at night!

Paul, I don't know where you are, but when we lived in the Entry Hill area of Bath, we had similar issues with multiplexes dropping out. Our line of sight to Mendip was very borderline, and we found that our reception varied according to wind/rain, time of day, atmospheric pressure etc. Trees were certainly an issue, more so in summer and in wet weather than in winter.
I'm no expert, but at the very least I'd advise doing a full retune, making sure all your leads and connectors are top quality etc. To be honest, I'd get someone in to make sure your installation is OK, or just use your satellite option.

Paul: If you had no problems with COM6 (Arq B) reception prior to the September changes, you shouldn't have a problem now, it just moved down channels from C67 to C52. COM5 (Arq A) however was previous transmitting in 2K mode and when it moved upto C67 it changed to 8K mode which has the effect of giving weaker reception in marginal conditions.
From what you've said, it does suggest a problem with your external aerial installation has developed.
How old is your external aerial and coax?
Is it securely mounted and could it have moved (angle wise) at all in the wind? Is the coax strapped to the pole and secured by clips etc for the drop?
If you give your postcode as well we might be able to a give some more informed comment.

Mike: Can you please give your postcode. It sounds as though you may be receiving several transmitters. (PS. The Mendip power increase for Arq A & B is March next year & Arq A will move down from C67 to C56).

Several of my friends and family have recently upgraded their aerials and in some cases replaced digi boxes or the TV itself due to some poor reception of some freeview channels. I have not followed that route but do have problems with certain channels on the Mendip transmitter channels which are on low power.
These channels show a service signal strength of about 40% but on a regular basis drop to 0% , I have investigated all the known problems for interference and can not find any common cause with my reception and my friends with similar service interruptions, the transmitter that always reports constant up time is some other broadcast causing interference on an intermittent but regular basis.
Mostly affects channels on 842000kHz

Anybody noticed the drop-off in signal quality
on COM6 (Channel 52) since last retune? I suppose that it will corrected when full power and final channel positions are available next year.
