The symbol shows the location of the Mendip (Somerset, England) transmitter which serves 720,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Are there any planned engineering works or unexpected transmitter faults on the Mendip (Somerset, England) mast?

Dave Lindsay - Many thanks for reply. Apologies - I've only just seen it. Yes, I think we do have a communal aerial. Have tried manual retunes on 2 of our 3 TVs, but got nowhere. Lost all BBC - as well as ITV3, 5*, 5USA which we lost some time ago - on all of them. Don't suppose you can suggest any solutions? Thanks...
Alison
PS BBC R4 FM reception virtually nil here too! Do listen on laptop, but would prefer via Freeview.

Alison: If the issue is with the aerial system then it's probably out of your hands and should be reported to the party responsible.

I asked if it is a communal aerial system because they are sometimes filtered so as to only let through (from the aerial) the channels/frequencies that are used by the transmitter.

Refer above under the heading "How the transmission frequencies change over time". Down the left-hand side are channels numbers and left to right is time (years). C49, BBCA (BBC standard definition services) has never been used before. C48, which is SDN (ITV3, 5*, 5USA etc) had never been used prior to switchover. If you lost COM4/SDN at switchover (Spring 2010!) then that might be because it is being filtered out and the aerial system hasn't been adjusted accordingly.

@Dave Lindsay: thanks for your time. I think you're right, we were receiving the Mendip transmitter - certainly we had dozens of commercial channels. Will talk to our management company.

The retuning I mentioned: on Mar 15 I found we suddenly had interference on most channels. A retune fixed it. A few days later another was needed which I think is when we lost the COMs. I assumed it was all part of the ongoing reshuffle.

I retuned yesterday to C49, got all its channels at full strength and quality all day, even after switching off and on again... This morning (9.20am) they have all vanished - blank screens/"no signal" - though it still claims 10 for strength and quality on the tuner for C49. Other multiplexes okay. Has the maintenance work on PSB1 resumed?

Becky : You need to speak to whoever is responsible for the communal aerial system.

It may be fitted with filters that only allow through, from the aerial, the frequencies used by the transmitter. Now some new frequencies are being used any filtering is likely to need adjustment.

Tony Ellis: Perhaps it was caused by some fault in the aerial system, or at least something outwith your control.

I had to do a second (manual) retune to get C49/PSB1 back - but I've no idea why those stations (and no others) were lost overnight after they'd been accessed and stored yesterday.
