Hiya,

Great site here, i intend to be camping in the summer just outside of Bembridge, and i have my laptop with DVB card built in, which i intend to take to catch up on the news, etc in the evenings.

Can anyone suggest a aerial that i could take to use? Or would the small one that came with it suffice?

Rob: The one thing you can be sure is that the very small aerial that came with the card will not work.

Normally you need a rooftop aerial for Freeview reception, but you might find that you can use an "indoor" type aerial whilst camping.

I get poor reception of ITV3 at my flat in BH1 2JU, is this situation likely to improve in 2012?

SO517JZ Aerial is located on roof and has worked fine until the spell of hot weather when picture breaks up, but does improve later in evening. Will the signal get better after the changeover. Comments at bottom of screen say NO SIGNAL or BAD SIGNAL

Amy: Indoor aerials are very hit and miss for Freeview reception. You are in a reasonably strong signal area but you would still have to find a position in the room where there is any signal. Close to a window which faces the direction of the transmitter is usually favourite. Even so different positions might have to be found for each multiplex and people moving about in the room could affect reception. You would really be best advised to have an outdoor aerial fitted if this is possible. Are you able to receive analogue transmissions using your indoor aerial? This would give an indication whether digital reception might be possible after switchover.

Peter Making: I would check Freeview intermittent interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice - the higher power signals may or may not improve the situation, it depends on the reason for the problem you have in the first place.

Peter Making: You're currently predicted to get variable reception on some multiplexes - this is expected to improve to good reception on all multiplexes after switchover completes.

The official 'step 2' is on 21 March 2012, but the commercial multiplexes have to stay on their current channels and power levels until 18 April 2012 as the new channels clash with transmissions from Crystal Palace.
