roy grantham:

I have also posted the fact that I have suddenly had a problem.

I have lost all the COM6 channels. It is not my aerial and no other set ups have changed.

It seems to be a reduction of power (signal) from Stockland Hill. If I swing my aerial to Mendip all is fine.

M K Helliar: The COM channels from Stockland aren't as powerful as the PSBs, and therefore don't have as big a footprint. The three COM channels are also used by Rowridge (but those of the Stockland PSBs aren't). This re-use of channels in closer proximity than with the PSBs is the reason for lower power and is likely to mean some people are limited, not because they can't receive it, but because the level of interference is too great.

At a sample location to the south of Yeovil and Digital UK Coverage Checker "thinks" that Stockland's PSBs are good, but its COMs are non-existant. Rowridge's PSBs are good, but its COMs are non-existant. These non-existant reception predictions could be down to too much interference.

If you have a yagi aerial, then a Group A aerial is probably best for Stockland.

TV is Toshiba TL96 3months old with integral freeview receiver. good signal, Have set up several times to see if any effect on lip synch problems. These are confined to HD programmes - the worst being ITV. Sound ahead of vision by ms but sufficient to prevent watching unless it's a commentary.
I am qualified in R & TV so have discounted my hardware now as the problem - is this a case of distance and the fact that there are two transmitters in the SW that give good signal here. I plan a visit to my local stores and will check if they have same problem.

Any advice appreciated. eg Which t/x should I be targeting for this postcode.

Why won't Stockland Hill be getting COM 7 and COM 8? Looking at the COM 7 and COM 8 coverage for other transmitters, it seems all of Exeter won't be able to get COM 7 or COM 8 from Wenvoe, Mendip, Beacon Hill or Caradon Hill. Surely the two new HD muxes ought to be on Stockland Hill as well.

Nicholas Willmott: The plan for the forthcoming COM7 and COM8 multiplexes was one of serving the most viewers for least cost. Ofcom has granted the licences, subject to a clause that allows withdrawal in 2018:

Want BBC Three, FOUR, CBBC, CBeebies and BBC News in HD? You can, in 2014 | High definition | ukfree.tv - 11 years of independent, free digital TV advice

For that reason, costs are being kept down by reusing equipment used previously prior to switchover.

Well oddly enough, according to this website, Stockland Hill serves 120,000 homes, whereas Beacon Hill (which will get COM7 and COM8) serves 84,000 homes. If Stockland Hill serves more homes than Beacon Hill, it too should have COM7 and COM8.

Nicholas Willmott: There is another factor and that is the availability of suitable broadcast channels, C31 through to C37 (C36 excepted) being used exclusively.
