Mrs Evelyn Thomas: True Christmas is broadcast alongside local TV channels, of which there are none planned to broadcast from Stockland Hill. Talking Pictures is broadcast on COM7 which is a temporary service available from 30 main transmitter sites covering around 70% of households, it is expected to close in 2020 and won't be added to any further transmitters.

Graham Theobald: It won't ever receive COM7 or COM8. Both are temporary services which are broadcast from 30 transmitters covering around 70-75% of UK households and are due to close in 2020 following the clearence of the 700MHz frequency band.

Cheddar

Hi
I live in Cheddar BS27 3BY. We, along with around 400 other houses in Cheddar, cannot receive BBC West or ITV West because our homes cannot see the Mendip transmitter and a local relay in Cheddar was not upgraded from Analogue to Digital.
Our signal thus has to come from Stockland Hill.
Would it be possible to arrange for Stockland Hill to transmit BBC West and ITV West alongside its other channels..
If not are there other transmitters South of Cheddar that we could repoint our aerial to, as said Mendip is out of sight to us because of the Mendip Hills
Thanks

Nigel Shenton:

Take a look at the 'digitaluk trade' box at the bottom of your posting (or go to Coverage Checker - Detailed View to see what reception possibilities you have. Stockland Hill is a possible but with some multiplexes being variable. It is also some distance away so the signal strength may be variable due to atmospheric variations. Wenvoe is a non-starter and Mendip has the best options though the terrain plot shows possible obstructions at about 5 km out from you.

The best chance is to have you aerial mounted as high as possible, making sure the mountings and pole are strong and safe. That could enable the aerial to 'see' over the hills.

You best policy is to consult a local TV Aerial contractor for advice based on local knowledge.

So if Stockland Hill will never get COM7 or COM8 will viewers be able to receive the channels they offer by freeview on a new/different mux come 2020?

Martin: It is up to each broadcaster to purchase broadcast capacity for their channels on Freeview and none have announced any plans for their channels that currently reside on COM7/COM8. Changes of this nature aren't generally announced until a few weeks before, so I wouldn't expect to see any announcements when we are still 3 years away from COM7/COM8 closing.

John Austin: Talking Pictures is broadcast on the COM7 HD multiplex which (along with COM8) is a temporary service, broadcast from 30 main transmitters which cover around 70% of UK households. It is due to be closed sometime between mid 2020 and 2022 and will not have its coverage expanded to any additional transmitters. You could try contacting the channel and ask if they have any plans to cover to another multiplex with greater coverage, however none of the channels on COM7 or COM8 have announced any such plans.

My postcode is EX15 1EJ and we have had no signal or very bad since last night and after speaking to others in Cullompton quite a few people are having the same problem. Is there a known fault on our transmitter?
