Nick: From DSO stage 2 you will unfortunately only have 14kW on MuxA, 3kW on Mux ArqA (changes mode to 8k), and 2.2kW on Mux ArqB (changes mode to 8k). Mux ArqB changes frequency on 16th November 2011 but remains at 2.2kW. This situation continues until 27th June 2012 when all three COM muxes change to high power working on their intended post DSO frequencies. SDN changes to 8k mode on that date.

lisa: There is a significant power increase to 100kW on the PSB muxes only at DSO. The COM muxes switch to high power working on 27th June 2012. Due to the mode change on Mux Arqa and Mux ArqB some viewers might experience a deterioration in reception on these two muxes despite a small power increase on 20th July 2011.

Thanks KMJ, so we will have full power on the 'sensible' channels, ie all the ITV's, BBC's, 4 and 5 from July? What power for 'Challenge?'

Do you know why I get a slightly smaller but much clearer/sharper picture on my widescreen crt from Sky using aerial connections rather than scart? Wish I could do the same with the digibox, but it won't work via aerial sockets.

Can we just confirm what the PCB muxes are? I think they are the two main muxes containing the main BBC TV/Radio and ITV / C4 channels + the HD Mux?
I am on a fringe area of the Sudbury map so am expecting significantly better reception on DSO. Plus the new HD Mux.
Am I wrong?

Lisa: PSB, Public Service Broadcasting multiplexes. PSB1/BBC A carries all the BBC's SD channels, interactive services and radio stations. PSB3/BBC B/HD carries BBC One HD, BBC HD, ITV1 HD and Channel 4 HD.
PSB2/D3&4 carries ITV1, Channel 4, Channel 5, and whatever else the ITV companies and Channel 4 decide to carry on their respective halves of the remaining capacity. At present that's ITV2, C4+1, More 4, E4, and ITV1 +1.
Digital UK's predictor shows you have a good chance of reliable reception on all six multiplexes from both Sudbury and from Crystal Palace after their respective switchovers are fully complete. You aren't expected to get reliable service from Sudbury COM5 and COM6 (Arqiva A and B) until the final channel change in June 2012.

Nick: Challenge is carried on Mux A/SDN. At switchover step 1, 6 July, this takes over the current main BBC multiplex's channel. It is due a power increase to double the current level, 14kW, but it's not clear whether this happens at step 1 or step 2 - Digital UK's predictor for Lisa's postcode shows the same (poor) prediction for 6 July as it does now, increasing to good at step 2 on 20 July.

Not sure you're right about the TX power levels KMJ,Derby.
I don't see any mention of Arquiva A being restrcited to 3kW and, in fact, my reading of http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/broadcast/guidance/tech-guidance/Anglia.pdf is that, from DSO2 on 20/7/11, 4 out of 5 of Sudbury's SD muxes will operate at 100kW with the other (SDN on UHF 49) being restricted to 14kW.
From 16/11/11, Arquiva B will move to UHF 63 and then operate at only 2.2kW until 27/1/212 (when it changes to UHF 56). (PE113YR)

Heinz : the information at the top of this page DOES mention the lower power of ArqA, ArqB and SDN. I quote :
NOTE: ArqA starts up at DSO 2 (20 July) at 3kW, replacing Mux C on C54 at 1.5kW, 'until further notice'. ArqB starts up at DSO 2 at 2.2kW replacing Mux D on C50 at 1.1kW, moves to C63 (at 2.2kW) on 16 November. NOTE: SDN will temporarily operate on channel 49 (at 14kW ERP) from the first stage of Sudbury's switchover until mid-2012. Arqiva A will remain on its preswitchover channel (54) from switchover until mid-2012. Arqiva B will remain on its pre-switchover channel (50+) until late 2011, and then temporarily move to channel 63 (at 2.2kW ERP), before adopting its final allocation of channel 56 during mid-2012
