stuart arbon: While the Digital UK 'Planned Engineering Works' page shows all services 'Liable to interruption', I'd be surprised if any work was being done on a Saturday afternoon. Any outdoor works are done in daylight and usually on weekdays. A transmitter failure would affect all 1.8 million homes using this transmitter.
Did your aerial installer install an amplified splitter? I think the most likely explanation is that the power supply to such a splitter has been turned off or that the fuse to it has blown. My next best guess is that the cable's connection to the aerial was not made securely and it has worked loose. Check for the splitter's power first.

Martin: Yes, the much stronger signals after switchover should push your reception above the "stable" threshold the whole time.

Re.- "maintancence work... Digital UK provide this information on a week-by-week basis."
Previously "detailed information" was easy to find.
I did search, but could only find the information on the map.
The link for "detail information" is not very noticeable.
Thanks for your help.

I have no signal to TVs connected to the six way aerial booster located in the loft next to the aerial. All was working until Saturday. Thought the booster had failed so bought another one with no success. The main TV in the lounge works ok with SKY but not when SKY box is turned off. This was also working OK previously. TVs work OK connected directly to the aerial. Please advise if it is a transmitter issue.
Regards
Bob

Bob: No, it is not a "transmitter issue". I would see Freeview reception has changed? | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice .

In reply to: Ryan: Not sure what I was supposed to make of "alright at lunch time ... then, like that moment last year, turned dire".
Sorry, didn't make myself clear. I meant that it went back to the picture breaking up and becoming unwatchable. Like it was towards the end of last year.
It appears that it will run alright in a morning, and at lunch time. Yet turn poor soon after lunch, and continue for the remainder of day.

When the Sutton Coldfield transmitter power goes up on 21 September 2011, should I be able to receive TV on my PC, with a desktop aerial? - and a PC tuner, of course.
